Stuck While True by jka

[raw]
made by jka for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

You're stuck in a bunch of nested while loops! Solve the puzzles to break out!

Controls - Press WASD or arrow keys to move - Press E to grab an object - Press E again to let go

Chrome on Windows issue

Tutorial and win texts don't seem to show up on Chrome for Windows. (Linux works fine, haven't been able to check MacOS.) It might also be a problem on other browsers, but Firefox seems ok.

It's not really gamebreaking or anything, everything you need to know is in the description here. Just know that when you reach the blue button it's supposed to show a "Thanks for playing!" text to indicate that you've finished the game.

I feel like I'm missing some controls or something. I don't see how this is possible. Is it possible to grab blocks and pull them or something?

I really like the concept and this could lead to cool puzzles.

@minibobbo: Sorry about that! Some tutorial text should popup during the first couple of puzzles. Weird that it doesn't seem to show up for you. I've added the controls to the description on this page and on the game page. Basically it's just WASD to move and E to grab an object and E again to let go.

Could you tell me which browser you're using on what OS? Perhaps there's a difference there.

Fun game! Very impressive you managed this many puzzles and puzzle types in an LD game!
I got to the final barrier but couldn't complete it because i accidentaly sent a beam backwords that messed up something and closed the loop behind me. Oh well.

When I finished the first day of the compo, I knew that there would be some game that had a programming theme to it, and I'm glad this was the first one I found. The puzzles were pretty creative and while the graphics and audio are primitive, the game controls surprisingly well. I can imagine this game getting speedruns for how straightforward it is.

Also for anyone playing, the directional keys also work, so you don't have to play one-handed with the WASD and E keys. Great work!

@linus-lindberg Whoops, that's a little level design issue you run into there, it seems. I'll count it as a win though! Thanks for playing!

@gamepopper Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Good point about the arrow controls, I'll add that to the description.

@minibobbo Nevermind, I think I figured out what's happening with that text bug (sort of). Turns out that the texts don't show up on Chrome for Windows. Chrome for Linux it works fine, as does Firefox for Windows. Weird!

Wow! Cool take on the theme! It felt just hard enough to tease you for a second which made it that much more rewarding when you figured it out. I made it to the blue button! Fun game.

I had a lot of fun with this! Clever satisfying puzzles, and a cute interpretation of the theme.

Nice little game, would love to see a post-compo version with more puzzles.

I kept playing until the end! ;-) Both the grapchis and the audio were simple but effective, and I enjoyed the puzzles. Cool entry ;-)

This is a fun little puzzle game with an impressive number of unique mechanics and a surprisingly challenging finish, nice job. I with the graphics were a little more interesting than just blue cylinder man.

Very cool! The first ~5 puzzles were maybe unnecessarily simple, but I guess they were needed to introduce the mechanics. Also the next thing I would develop is rotating the cubes in some way that's easier than just pushing them in the right angle.

@thales-guimaraes, @eusekerci, @dokthar, @spice-cabinet, @dumplingsquid, @inanimatecarbonrod, @island-jam-2-group-3, @quinn-patrick, @iorena: Thanks for playing and for the feedback! :smile:

@quinn-patrick: Totally agree about the player character. I was planning something more interesting for that, but unfortunately I ran out of time.

@iorena: You're right about rotating of course, it can be a bit fiddly. I thought about adding a button for rotating things, but I wanted to keep the control scheme as simple as possible, which might have been the wrong choice.

Also thanks for the feedback on the puzzle difficulty! I found it quite hard to determine how difficult each puzzle needed to be, but it's good to know that I can probably ramp up the difficulty a bit quicker next time.

Great game liked the puzzle aspect. I enjoyed that you didn't just stick with time or programming loop and you went with literal loops. Great outside the box thinking.

that's pretty good. one thing i'd suggest though is to make an option to reset the puzzle if you ever meet a dead end (i don't know if that's possible, but I think it is)

Nice little game. I like the idea of moving the boxes around to solve logic puzzles.

@boxcar012 @levidsmith Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it!

@jegus9 Thanks! I tried to design the puzzles in a way that getting stuck is not possible, but there might be ways to get stuck that I didn't consider. So your suggestion might be a good idea.

It's a really nice game, the puzzles were clever and it felt well polished.

I didn't need the information panels and din't actually noticed them at first - it's really easy to understand what you need to do ; and when I noticed them it actually confused me and took me a while (no pun intended) to understand what they mean. So maybe later in the game with more complex mechanisms that would be useful, but for what it is now I don't think it's required.

The visuals could (obvisouly) be better but at least you used different colors that made it possible to easily understand everything! Sound effects are nice, too bad that there is no music :p

Good job!

@rolly Thanks for playing! I completely agree with you about the information panels. I started out with them, because of the theme. The hints on them didn't turn out to be very useful, but I kept them in anyway, mostly because I liked the way they look.
