Cannibalis by KungKras

[raw]
made by KungKras for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

The zoologists looked on in horror at the experiment they had just deviced. Their suspicions about Species 219 being cannibalistic and highly aggressive had not only been proven but exceeded. As more and more reports of lost expeditions on their home planet came in, the researchers stomachs turned while trying to imagine what could have happened to those innocent people who dared to go there and explore.

In the game, you are a member of species 219.

Your goal is to survive the experiment that you have been trapped in. This includes devouring smaller members of your own species to increase your own size. But beware of those bigger then you! They have the same goal! Also, watch out for the spike balls!

If there are too many spike balls on the field, try to grab the magnets and broccolis. They will help you survive.

How to play

  • WASD to move.
  • Grow bigger by eating smaller enemies(AgarIO style). Simply run in to them.
  • Same size enemies makes you bounce away from them.
  • Spike balls spawn after some time, they are instant death.
  • The Magnet helps you remove spike balls, save it for bad times.
  • Broccoli makes you small again which can help you dodge the spike balls once you get too big.

Found that not enough small ones spawned and it was almost impossible to get a head start and play properly, most times I died before getting a single nom nom.

Also The wobbling of the character might be slightly out of sync with the audio and it really annoyed me to the point I stopped playing.

The movement controls where fun and slidy and I like the idea of making Argar.IO into 3d but at the end of the day it is just a clone that was too difficult to play.

Next time I would suggest getting some feedback from other / doing some user testing.

Overall its a good effort and a promising idea.

Great job but the game is a bit hard. I often find it hard to consume the small ones as they are often chased after by bigger enemies. Will be better if the player can move faster.

There are too many creatures larger than the player generated, and it seems that AI is better at chasing than escaping. Generally,.io games may give the small creatures some advantages in speed to make them enable to deal with the large ones, maybe the generation probability of props can be increased to increase the living space of players.

@nightvision65 @dimlight Indeed it is very hard in the beginning but we like hard games. Once you learn how to kite the enemies, pull them into spike balls etc, it becomes a lot more interesting to play. With that said, spawn rates, movement, power ups etc could definitely be tweaked. In fact everything in this game could be improved a lot. :)
