“Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?” ― Terry Pratchett, Going Postal

You must tend the churchyard. Help preserve the memories of ghosts by typing their names before they fade away. But be vigilant! As time passes, more gravestones (with their resident ghost folk) will appear. Stones will also weather over time and names may become obscured, leaving you to rely on your memory. How long can you keep their memories alive?

A super simple browser game whipped up over the weekend, designed to challenge your typing speed and your memory. All names are randomly generated by combining a list of first names and surnames.

I wanted to start small for my first game jam so there's not a lot of polish, but fingers crossed it is vaguely playable.

Instructions

  • To stop the ghosts from fading, you must type their names correctly.

  • Click a gravestone to select it, then type the name on that stone to restore the ghost to full strength.

  • Letters will light up in green as you type them correctly.

  • Beware! If you make a typo, you'll have to start typing the name from the beginning again.

  • As time passes letters will disappear (replaced by an underscore). Try to remember the names!

The core idea is very cool and innovative, I like it a lot! I'd suggest making the ghosts fade a little slower, since right now it's very very difficult!

Grats on your submission! I think for a typing game, it's a little easier if you don't have to type on each gravestone before typing the names. I'm not sure if that's a deliberate choice you made though. It does get very hard to manage since there's no break in the action! I think the design is simple and nice.

A fun and very unique entry. It was very difficult, though. I'd recommend having the names start out easier and shorter and get harder over time, as it is they seem to start out quite hard. I may also just be trash at typing, lol. I really liked all of the analytics at the end, stuff like that seriously enhances the feeling of polish.

This is really cool! Great take on the theme and and also a serious idea done simply. At first I thought the gravestone names would fade rather than the ghosts, that tripped me up. Maybe adding rounds of progressive difficulty as an incentive to progress. Good job!
