SpaceMan by sefan

made by sefan for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Capture4.PNG You are stuck in space and can't find a way out. You will need to collect all the gems before you can enter your ship and escape this. You might need to turn around to get what you want.

Didn't have time to make sound and an ending. But hope you enjoy playing my game. Let me know what you think.

hehe a nice take on VVVVVV-like gameplay. it's a small self-contained experience and discovering the turning mechanic feels good! It gets a lil tedious when only one collectible is left without any good info on where it is and where is the turning platform you need to access it. A minimap or UI info would have been perfect!
Nice job still!

I love how fresh this design idea is :) Especially the aha moment when I understood that the level is looped :) Best of luck!

@easygoingdubber No sound was implemented in it. I have removed it from my voting category now.

I like the simple pixel art. I agree with others that you probably want some sort of indicator to help you find the orbs. Maybe pulse at the edge of the screen coming from the location of the nearest orb? Just a thought.

@sefan that's better now and more intuitive and your game will gain hiher notes

Well designed. Took the theme the literal way. Enjoyed playing it.

Lovely art. The game mechanic is really interesting. I just wish there was a way to know how many orbs are left. the level design is pretty nice too; the way that the level turning thing is in a pit, when you can't jump out of it really makes you assume that it does something important.

Really like the looks of it and its retro vibe. The way you're always looping through the scenario reminds me of that old game Bubble Bobble. And the whole turning the stage upside down is a very cool twist (no pun intended).

Nice one! Totally fitting the theme, love the idea! Graphics are pretty neat as well!
Perhaps it would be nice to know how much gems are left to find. Had fun playing anyway !

Nice exploration game. There were I think a couple of bugs in my experience: the first world rotation trigger (the one in the kind of V-canyon) was invisible until I got really close; if I hadn't decided to go into "I'm curious what happens if I get trapped" mode I'm not sure I would have ever found it. Also I *think* I found all the gems, but I couldn't find a way to get back into my ship if there's a win state.

I agree with the commenter above me: an indication of how many gems are left would be really helpful.

I liked the game though I think you need to add a jump animation and make the person faster.

This game is really fun and has a creative idea. The only thing I would suggest is to add sound, I do not know if there is a problem with my computer though... I also like your artwork.

@fish-sticks Didn't have time to implement sound in the game.

Awesome idea, fits the theme perfectly. I didn't realize there was the whole rotation thing until a minute or 2 in and it went from "this is pretty cool" to "oh wow ok this is awesome". Great job

Really nice game. I especially liked simple gameplay mechanics.

I like the mechanics of changing direction, which doesn't just change the orientation of the character but of the whole screen! :D
I wish there was music, sounds, and an ending, because I picked up all the pink balls (I think) but nothing happened (if I'm not being silly).
Thank you for this game! :D

@matlab Didn't have the time to make a real ending or sound in the Jam build. There are 5 orbs (pink balls) to pick up.

The gravity flip mechanic came as a surprise to me, very nice!

I understand that you're puropsely trying to limit the players movement in order to force the player to fall through the loop, but I feel like adding some more movement options like jumping (maybe just one "block" high) or generally faster movement speed would have made this more fun for me. It felt a bit tedious having to fall through the loop again after a close miss.

The gameplay fits a jam very well it's easy enough to understand without having to read through a tutorial and interesting enough to keep my attention!

I like it, well done!

Really neat idea, the movement was a bit slow though. It would be nice if there was a counter for how many orbs you've collected/still need to collect. I haven't seen any orbs in a while now searching around but I still can't seem to enter the ship.

Really great idea!
I loved the Artstyle, basic but really nice!

It was a nice little Game, but a bigger View Size would've been greate to plan ahead :)

Pretty good game overall.I agree with others on the indicator of where or how many you have left. Otherwise the simple graphics are nice and the mechanic is neat. I enjoyed it!

Cool concept. I think you should write in the description that there's no actual ending, because I kept looking for more gems until I gave up. I like how the direction changes gradually, it was a nice touch.

Loved it, but sadly I reached a point that I was stuck without finding how many gems are there, or how to get into the ship

cute art style, I think you should add some instructions at the beginning other than the game is fun to play

[We played your game on stream this weekend!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/779942253?t=02h58m27s)

This one was pretty interesting. I like how the lack of a jump button made me think harder about my options, and the transition to a constantly looping level was buttery smooth, which made my engineer heart swell. Nice job!!
