The Intern by FlorianB

[raw]
made by FlorianB for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Well done! You just got an internship in our company!

The only problem is that we're about to go bankrupt... :( But do not worry, there's is still a lot of work to do to help us keep this company afloat. Like, huh... I don't know, we'll find something. Yeah!

Take some object, throw it somewhere and you'll be good!

Oh, and try to not start a fire in the archives, it's would be the third time this week.

Grab an object > Left Mouse Button.

Throw the object > Left Mouse Button again. That's it.

This is our entry to the Ludum Dare 46. It was our first game jam, and it was really fun to make a game in such a short time! Special thanks to the Penguin for... Wait, what, a penguin?

Thanks for playing :D

I tried to extract the rar file but unrar and 7zip but both gave an error on linux. Maybe the file got corrupted or its just a linux thing. Tip: use zip next time that is more universal and natively supported by all Operating Systems.

My main criticism is that I wish you could use WASD to move around. This game was hilarious, although it didn't offer much in terms of gameplay.

I played for a couple of minutes but wasn't able to find the coffee machine for the second objective. It seems fun, but my experience was hampered a bit since I was playing on a QWERTY keyboard. I was able to move around freely by using a controller in one hand and my mouse in the other, but it was far from an ideal play experience.

Really enjoyed that game, was hilarious, but lacked a bit on the gameplay side, but it was short enough to not get boring. But the W Button doesnt work to walk forward.

I enjoyed this a lot 😂 A bit too real having worked in an office IRL.
Not sure if this was intentional but WASD wasnt working so I had to use the arrow keys, not the end of the world!
All the guys running around was a nice touch and the environment was great!
Why was there a little penguin fella in the archive room, did he start the fire...? 🤔🤔🤔

Great entry guys! Good job!!!!

Thanks for your feebacks, we'll try to edit the game with WASD support asap ^^ We're as happy as the penguin when he started the fire in the... Wait, what?

We will publish a Linux build as soon as possible! :)

Funny idea and background music.
Player control suggestion:
The distance between left shift and arrow keys is too long for me to at once run and control the direction where I run. Both Shift keys should be supported or WSAD should work like arrow keys.
I wanted to hit the ceiling but objects are thrown horizontally. I could achieve my goal by bouncing off other objects. ;)

It was really annoying that I can't play with WASD, but I'm supposed to press left shift in order to run, so I needed a third hand if I wanted to press left shift plus arrows plus moving the mouse to look around.

The environment is cool and I enjoyed hitting the boss with everything that was in his table.

The coworkers constantly walking in your way really added a sense of realism and I loved the humor in the game like a literal phone room and the random penguin standing ominously in a room on fire....
Great first ludum game!

Hilarious little game. I liked the physics! I thought it was hilarious how I had to bring the whole coffee machine. Can get a little bit confusing at times. Nice job!

It felt humorous to play, everything felt random and unexpected. I really enjoyed it.

The personality of this game is great, and entirely supported by the chaotic gameplay. Great work, you guys!

@odd1in @david-knox @play-pause-games @nabo369 @stadoblech thanks a lot for your positive feedbacks! We're happy you enjoyed the game :D

@picross thanks for your feedback! Could you tell us more about the parts you found confusing?

@carlix @mark-kelly @garett-cooper @marot sorry for the key mapping, we're from a country that uses AZERTY keyboard instead of QWERTY keyboards, and we thought Unity would detect what kind of layout you used and adapt itself... Anyway, we uploaded a new build for QWERTY layouts, so you can play with WASD! Thanks for telling us about that problem.

@garett-cooper the coffee machine is in the open space, against the wall between the Phone Room and the Meeting Room!

@marot throwing objects in other directions could be fun, we'll try something

@curleysam thanks for all your positive feedbacks! :) As I said right above, we fixed the keymap to use WASD, thanks for telling us about that.
For the penguin, well, I guess we'll never know why that lil guy was there *each time there was a fire in the archives*!

A fun, silly game that I found really cool.
For a gamejam, a really nice entry!
I liked the overall premise and some solutions were really funny, like throwing the trash out the window, lol.
I liked that one especially because it was intuitively the first thing your gamer jerk brain tells you to do xD
I also could se you've made quite a lot of assets, the title screens looks really pretty actually!
Everyone knows there's not much time with gamejams which is probably why all the NPCs are very simple, but i that case I think you should "own" this weakness, y'know? the capsule shape was funny and I generally liked the faces just drawn in photoshop wasn't th best choice, I think if you did the drawings in illustrator (he makes vectors out of it, which smoothes the whole thing, very much like in flash) would have fitted better.
Also I think it would have looked nice if you'd have some sort of simple hopping animation, ike in South Park where they also started with a very simplistic style due to time limitations.
I would also rework the design of the bubble and choose a different font :)
You could maybe replace the bubbles with E-Mails?
I think you can also add a lot more funny humorous encounters that way (like passive aggressive business talk code, putting others in cc etc)

Overall a good entry, congrats on finishing your game! :)
