Dance Commander by detectiveLosos

You are the last Dance Commander, so go show them HOW IT'S DONE! But be sure to keep your party alive!
With the help of your dance-commanding skills you gather a crowd of dancing people around you, and soon enough the whole dance floor will be yours!
GAME RULES
To gain movement speed press spacebar with the beat of the music.
To gain control of another person, you or your party members need to physically bump into him (your sprites should collide). Auras around characters are only a visual indication of this character's faction.
There are 4 different factions: - Freeroamers (grey auras) - can be captured with any party strength. Gives +1 to your party strength when captured. - Solo dancers (blue auras) - can be captured if your party strength is 16 or higher. Gives +5/+2 to your party strength when captured. If you interact with them while your party strength is lower than 16, you would lose control of one of your party members. - Bouncers (red auras) - can be captured if your party strength is 46 or higher. Gives +10/+4 to your party strength when captured. If they see you or your party members, the would start chasing you and would try to arrest your party members, so you should try to avoid guys with red auras while your party strength is lower than 46. - Fake Dance Commanders (yellow auras) - can be captured if your party strength is 66 or higher. Gives varying amounts of party strength. If you interact with them while your party strength is lower than 66, they would steal your party members.
Guys with green auras are your party members.
Controls: - WASD - Move - Spacebar - Dance! - ESC - Main Menu

I'm a drummer so you had me at follow the beat.
<3
That said, the music was groovy and the graphics really complimented it as well! Overall a really solid game!
Graphically it's quite beautiful. The auras are simple but very effective.
Doo doo do, dah dah doo doo doo. The music's catchy.
I like the theme of keeping the party alive, but I'm biased because we did the same thing.
Also, a little bug perhaps, but if you walk to the bottom right corner you consistently fall through the level :)
Hard to keep the beat and get a good screenshot! At first I was bothered by the movement speed, but that was because I missed the instruction about timing the spacebar- that was a big help. Ooo then that dance party got started! Thanks for the fun game!
@kyle-bowman Yeah, it is just steady clicking, so it's more like "follow the overall rhythm". We added the rhythm mechanic on the last day and had not much time to test it out and polish it.
@yarpoplar Ah... That's very sad, the last level is the best one :slight_frown:
@jamie-slowgrove Yeah... It seems like the web version has some issues (even though it works fine on our end). We should look into it, thank you.
@sid-fish-games Following the beat gives you speed, not followers  You should bump into people to gain control of them. Also, your party strength should be high enough.
@alessia-ip Thank you for your feedback! Initially, we had a beat indicator in the center of the screen, but it was getting all of our attention, and it became impossible to pay any attention to your party and surroundings (which is a big part of gameplay). So instead of the circle in the center of the screen, we added vibrations at the corners. You can look at them if you off the beat, and concentrate on your surroundings when you back on track.
@evert Yeah, we know about that little problem. There are a lot more spots on the levels, where you can glitch through the floor. So instead of fixing them we just added a "teleportation" mechanic
@skitzogamer Yeah, we should do something with the auras. Some colors just look very similar (grey and blue) and when people standing too close one aura overtakes the other.
@randomhuman Thank you for the feedback! A lot of people are having problems with the bouncers. So it seems like "I should make bouncers more aggressive, otherwise it's too easy" was not the brightest of my thoughts  It's really strange that you've got that problem on firefox (it works on my end in firefox). Maybe the problem appears after multiple level reloads.
Well done!
