BUG / ERROR FIX LOG:

Fixed an error causing values of random objects to be stuck at 1.

Fixed a bug causing the Combination Table to not highlight correctly when hovering.

Extended the life of The Abomination from 60 seconds to 120 seconds when not fed at all.

Added a notification when The Abomination dies.

Tamed FOV change when moving.

Fixed VR launch error (not tested).

Lowered the overall volume.

These small changes simply make the game more enjoyable and possible to play for more users while still staying authentic to the entry that was released for the compo.

QUICK! You must feed The Abomination anything you can find to keep it alive!

STORY: Your weird uncle REALLY has to go to the bathroom, and look... you just so happen to be standing in his way! He frantically tells you about his "abomination" that he has been growing in his basement. He tells you that it moves and must be fed. He seemed very sure that you cannot possibly keep it alive with just the items around the basement, and that items must be combined! He ran off to the bathroom before you could ask what combinations worked, so good luck keeping it alive!

DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS: You must keep The Abomination alive for 5 full minutes. You can grab objects by pressing and holding the Left Mouse Button or E key (The circle on the center of the screen with fill as you hold the button down). You can drop objects by pressing the Right Mouse Button or F key.

When holding objects, you have a few options: You can drop the item. You can feed the item to the abomination (find The Abomination, then hold the interaction key on The Abomination until the center circle is full). You can combine two objects by using the Combination Table (as seen in this image). Capture1.PNG Hold the interaction key on the Combination Table while holding an object in your hand to add it to the table. Once the table has two items, it will combine them and give you a new object in return. If you follow the instructions on the whiteboard, you will receive helpful combinations, but if you choose to combine objects not listed on the whiteboard, you will end up with harmful combinations.

If The Abomination is no where to be found, it has died. The timer will continue to count down to zero, but you will be presented with a screen reflecting your performance at the end.

It is impossible to keep the Abomination alive for the entire 5 minutes without feeding it combined items. Make sure to manage your time and resources well. There are plenty items around the basement, but never underestimate the speed that The Abomination shrinks!

NOTE FROM DEVELOPER:

I am 16 years old and this was my first game jam experience (and first fully functional game). To be honest, it was really stressful, but also loads of fun!

Side Node - Unfortunately, I was unable to create my own music in time, so the music in the game is a mix of some royalty free stuff.

Also, PLEASE GIVE CRITICAL FEEDBACK! I want to know how to improve as a developer!

I love the music and graphics. I could not get the combing of stuff to work. But overall fine little jam game. Well done.

Smooth controls and a consistent aesthetic help tie everything together. Puzzle-like mechanics are always fun!

Great effort!

A fun little game, though I must say the motion blur was really a bit extreme... Soundtrack was great though!

Music is nice and hectic. The combining stuff could use some work, but for a first game you really knocked it out of the park. Great job!

Nice game that captured the frantic mood well. All the objects were super recognizable which made making combinations easier.

Great job on doing all the models and everything. For some reason your game started Steam VR which was weird and also the field of view change was a bit nauseating.

Great job for this being your first game jam! Had a fun time with it. The main issues I had were the amount of camera movement and overall floatyness of the controller, which I see that you patched in an updated version, so good job with that. I know that I could combine things to make better things but to me it seemed like most of what I created was already in abundance throughout the level so it felt kind of pointless making those things. Maybe more of the items could create things that aren't already in the level (i.e. the two microscopes combining to the super microscope). I found that the super microscope seemed to keep it alive for a while so I ended up just gathering all the microscopes and only using those. Maybe once you craft two items together it tells you how much life it gives the abomination to encourage players to try to combine more items to find the best combo. Other than that great work and keep making games!

@rhoka Thanks for the feedback! Some items that you craft from the whiteboard do look the same as other items but have different values (only because I ran out of time applying new materials). And I found myself only using the super/best microscope almost all the time as well. At the last second during the compo, I ended up just throwing things around the scene so the layout and abundance of items definitely needs some work. Once again thank you for your detailed feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed playing!

Can't believe it's your first game jam ! :o I really enjoyed this entry. First, the FPS controller is spot on and it feels great and it's rare for a jam game. The graphics are minimalist in a good way, it's eye-candy. At the very beginning i didn't really understood what was going on, as you asked for some critical feedbacks, but once I got it was a really fun puzzle game to play through ! Impressive 48H entry solo work, especially for a first time ! Keep making games :)
