food dish empty by jackcaunter

[raw]
made by jackcaunter for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

post-jam update / fix:

Apr 21: https://jackcaunter.itch.io/food-dish-empty-post-jam

  • minor difficulty adjustment to two of the levels. i'm not sure whether this is classified as a "bug fix" because the jam version is technically possible, just so frustrating that players were missing out on half the content. just use your best judgement when rating :)

what is a cat with no food to do?

find a way to get something to eat to keep yourself alive!

make your way through several household themed levels featuring cool platforming action

and balls of yarn

controls:

  • arrow keys: move
  • z: jump
  • x: bat at things

although this is a jam game, i did make everything myself including the music and sound effects during the 72 hours :)

There's something so nice with how th music fits the cat, its a very relaxing game, especially after three long days of work. Thank you.

Super fun! The balls of yarn were a fun and entertaining touch. I became a little trigger happy when it came to that x key!

That was actually amazing! The visuals were cute, the audio was super nice, and I was impressed to see that cutscene at the end! The yarn mechanic was interesting, and I truly felt like a cat as I batted around the very first yarn ball for no reason at all... I think there should be a small difficulty adjustment, as some of the yarn-button combos felt a little unforgiving, but overall this was a fun and unique submission.

This is a really cute and fun game, I love the art :) It's really nice and the music in the background fits well. The puzzles are hard ngl, maybe I just suck haha, but overall a really nice game! Keep it up

Love the cat! Love the music! Very funny game, I enjoyed the simplistic look and feel even though it was actually challenging! Great work :)

Loved the cat! A little tip for people who got stuck like I did: you can bat the ball in both directions while swinging for extra swing. The boss at the end was a nice touch.

That was quite fun. Could not progress past the high button though as it was just out of reach. I guessed that the ball of yarn was supposed to trigger it but it did not reach.

@mettra @olafstromberg ah man i didn't mean for that to happen! you can jump and bat the yarn in the other direction to get enough momentum. (this level is fixed in the post-jam version)

Couldn't progress passed a certain point because batting the ball to touch the button was a bit hard for me. Cool game though!

This game is really fun and cute. The boss at the end was really funny! Are you gonna be in LD47? I'd hate to see you stop making games.

It's fun but it's quite hard to hit the buttons. I was stuck when i had to do it over a pit, i just couldn't, it was too hard. But idea is great, and it was still a fun littile game !

The idea of using the ball of wool to push buttons could be interesting. At the moment its not really fun to interact with them.
They are very slow to speed up 4 punches or so until they reach their peak but if you miss one hit they almost stop immediately. Knowing how to solve the puzzle but not being able to do so is a bit frustrating.

Other than that the expression of the cat is nice and its playable in the browser. Keep it up :)

Even after the fix the game is still impossible. while I played, it was fun and nice... Maybe try to test your game before submitting...

Haha, this is really goofy. The music and the cat with its serious face make it very likable to me. Giving every ball i met a punch while walking by delivered on that cat feeling quite good. I have a german keyboard - there, the y and z keys are switched (QWERTZ). Z and X as controls do not work together there nicely ;)

I love the grumpy cat :D The music adds to the humor as well

Currently though the learning curve is extremely steep, I had to read the comments to figure out how to even get past the first button / yarn riddle. The next one is even harder and I eventually gave up.
Oh and please don't use Z / X as input buttons, it's really awkward on an european keyboard.
