In this game you have to survive for a couple days, before being saved.

Surviving includes fishing, cooking fish, boiling water and collecting wood to keep your fire alive. If you go far from your any source of fire, you will freeze.

•Interactions happen by holding down the left ALT key and Left Clicking,
there is no other inputs just W,A,S,D which is movement.

•You can fuel a fire by adding twigs onto it and you can light it up with a burning torch.

•If your torch would happen to blow out, you have to re-light it at a campfire.

•Scrolling moves your camera up/down.

•Space drops all the items you're holding

•To get the ending you have to use your sleeping bag.

•You can cook fish at your main fire and boil water on the one on the lake.

•If you hold alt you can see some extra info about the intractable items. Ui is messy there

This was a really solid game! I had tons of fun playing it, the graphics are nice, it's quite stressful and I was always trying to prepare ahead. Awesome work!

This is INSANE for graphics for a game jam! Great job, I loved the stresses, made it feel chaotic at times but super engaging! Kept me on my toes!

Great work on this game. It feels cold. It feels like i'm going to freeze to death. Got my fires figured out. got my torches figured out. I didn't know for the longest time that you had to ACTUALLY CLICK THE OBJECTS WITH THE MOUSE. I thought it was just alt and then click the mouse like if i was next to them. Once that hurdle was passed i rolled right along and got to all the neat stuff. :-) xD

@claybro2021 @synoxgames @beanslasher Thanks a lot for playing it and I'm glad you got the hang of it.
@commanderstitch Yes I could've probably said something more about interaction, the tutorial text was added as a last thing so that player still has a way to maybe find out how to play the game.

The game is cool and very fun, the art style is great and the models you came up are incredible. The HUD feel out of place and sometimes too messy. You should put some clues for what to do, I spend a lot of time figuring it out. But overall the game is solid and you should be proud of your work. Exelent job. See you next jam

Had a blast playing it.
I think the HUD is too messy sometimes, informations displaying on top of others.
Great job anyway !!

Graphics are highly impressive for a game jam but the method of showing info and the HUD really disrupted the effects of the nice graphics. Would love to see a post LD version where you work on the HUD and some polish.

@pathus22 @rakowu @eryph @sami Thanks a lot for playing, the HUD was messy, I wasn't sure what the right way would've been to do it and it also didn't get enough attention. The point they had was to somehow tell the player that it has to cook fish and purify water.

I like the concept and I especially like the visuals and the minimal sound. It really gives me a feel of being alone in the wilderness on a freezing cold night.

The UI could use some work if you decided to expand upon this. In particular I had issues cooking the fish and drinking the water. The water pot seemed to get stuck on the fire unless I'm missing something.

Good effort overall, I'd love to see this expanded. Also, I love the title if your game haha.

@ryannielson If you hold down alt you can see extra info, so the water must've been boiling and the fish was not cooked. You need fire for that to happen. Thanks a lot for your feedback and checking out the game. @r3d3r Thanks for playing, I'm glad you got enjoyed it!

Very ambitious project, and I love that it's "Short Dark", as I have loved Hinterlands creation for many years as it's evolved. Controls were a challenge to get the hang of, along with environment interactions, but with a little practice, and after a few deaths, it went much smoother.

really excellent for a jam game! Felt very stressful trying to navigate this harsh environment and manage all my needs. That feeling really complemented the experience. pro-tip: click very fast when there's a splash and you can catch like 4 fish in a row.

I couldn't work out how to cook the fish... Also, pressing space seems to drop the item you're holding. Might be worth mentioning in the controls? Very nice atmosphere and graphics though, great work!

@bebadboi Thanks, the pro tip can stay, lets just have it as a feature :D
@ion-programming Yes I forgot to mention that... The fish has to be cooked at your main fire.

Not sure how to cook the fish and drink water (I got the pot on the fire though), also kept losing the mouse position (on a 4k monitor with everything being really white :D ). Still really enjoyed it and slowly explored larger area of the map as I got the hang of it. Really cool experience. Really liked the atmospheric sound. Very ambitious project for 48 hours!

A really nice game! I think that it's mood is prette unique. The only thing i found a little annoying is the interaction - holding alt to interact felt a little off. Overall, I really liked it.

I struggle a bit with this one mainly because the interaction didn't feel intuitive and didn't always have the expected results. Having to hit ALT to engage the cursor, not knowing where the cursor was whenever I engaged this mode, and simply seeing "power" and it enter negative it just didn't click to me.

I understand that this might have been choice due to how the mouse also controls the camera so needing a way to switch between manifested itself by holding a button. Perhaps allowing me to press "E" to interact with the objects instead might have made the experience a little more fluid. To which you might need to some how indicate which objects are interactible.

Beyond that the game looks nice, the atmosphere gives a proper sense of isolation, and the overall presentation is good.

@prodigalson Pressing a button to interact would need extra time only focused to that and also when there is 3 items in your radius you don't want to keep picking up the same or anything like that. But thanks for playing, I did see that some people had problem with this, I'm definitely learning from it.

Unfortunately it did not record my commentary

I could not figure out how to cook the fish. I tried clicking on the fire i tried clicking on the pot but nothing ever happened :(

I liked the graphics and the audio. However, the audio could have profited from a bit more variety, the constant wind sound got annoying after a while. For the graphics only the sidewards animations were a bit wonky.

I think Diagonal movement is faster than straight line movement. You will see me moving diagonally towards the end.

I did not like the alt click interactions and would have prefered a more classical press e to interact

@preda
my comment really sounded a bit harsh, overall I liked the game which would have been more apparent if I had recorded the audio :D . I just wrote down more of the things that you could improve on :)

The Graphics are really well done and the overall gameplay also works very well.
But I really can't find where it says that you have to cook fish on the main fire. That also does not make much sense in my opinion. Maybe do an in game tutorial next time, it is nearly alway worth investing some time

But as I Said overall I quite liked it!

@ausstein That was the first thing I planned and the last thing I could do. There was literally no time. ![Annotation 2020-05-08 025301.png](///raw/995/41/z/33d80.png) That is where I mention that. The tutorial text was added last 10 minutes... I don't think anyone actually finished it yet so no-one found my typo. Also there is a purpose to why you can only cook it at your main fire from gameplay aspect and logic, you have those sticks there so you can put the fish onto them and cook it, and the pot wouldn't fit on it so you have the other fire that can hold the pot.

Interesting Game and a lot of Content.

Many interactions where sometimes its not totally clear what to do. But the Tutorial Helps here.

A huge amount of work what you have done in that short of Time.

Well Done Good Job
