PICKLE on Mars (with Crab) by prangod

[raw]
made by prangod for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

finishedtitlescreen22222subtitle2pressx.png You are Borsch the crab, a guardian displaced in time and space. You don’t know where you are or why you are here but one thing is for certain.......you must protect your pickle!!!!!!!

unknown.png

In this game you play as a little crab trying to protect the all important LORD PICKLE from those who seek to taste its juicy flesh. Luckily you have the power of radical eye lasers to fight back. But don’t get too comfy; you also have to refill the pickle’s brine to keep it fresh. Luckily, the red planet Mars seems to be stocked full of salt, vinegar, and dill. Just collect the three items, place them into the chest near the pickle and continue killing them enemies!!

Controls: Movement:WASD Shoot: Arrow Keys (yes you can shoot diagonally) Start Game: X

(P.S. the ant on the cover (known as the antvile) is cut content because we are too inexperienced to make a game in 3 days)

Thank you very much for checking out our game. We're just a group of 4 idiots (and one yarn brain) who decided to try and make a game for Ludum Dare 46 with no experience in game development at all. Hope you enjoyed it. -Mardood

Pickle on Mars, with Pickle, salt, vinegar, and dill. 5 objects on mars? What a steal!

This was a decent project. I'm not sure if others had the same issues, but the game ran way too fast for me. If you guys used the Unity engine to create this, you may need to account for the time between frames (ie. use Time.deltaTime). Otherwise, this has potential. It's a good start!

I love the premise of this game with its absurdist humor, though the actual gameplay is challenging. I would love to see a post-jam version where the antvile will make their planned appearance and give it a little more polish. Overall well done. – Zen

This game makes me want to drink some pickle brine and kick back with my friends? If only Jessica would return my calls so we could get high and watch Fight Club like she PROMISED we would!

Fun to play. Just everything happens too fast, maybe? like you move really fast, almost at shots speed. besides that you made really a good job!

I don't even know what to say!(?) Impressive for a group of people that have no prior game design experience. Nice work!

Because of how new we are to game development, the only play tester until like 40 minutes before release was the programmer so it has the classic problem of being too hard/fast for anyone that isn't the programmer.

This was intense and fun! Music was really adding to it, well done! I like that the aiming is done with arrow keys instead of mouse, it adds to the game mechanic I think :)

That was fun but a bit tough. Not that my game is not hard as well, but I found the difficulty was not in the type of game that you made, but the speed at which you and the enemies move, and the enemies random spawn. I felt I was running into them at mach 1. I feel if the enemy sprite was a tad bit bigger and maybe the crab had variable speed it would be a tighter game gameplay wise. But it's a Jam and it was still a fun game to play. Good Job.
