Supermarket Showdown by Sigton
Supermarket Showdown
The shelves are empty. The people aren't happy. They're coming for you - the store manager.
Thankfully, you're in a supermarket! Using the last of the stock, you can build defences to protect yourself from the hoards of angry customers. For how many business days can you keep yourself alive?
A retro-style tower defence game, where you protect yourself from bunches of angry customers in the supermarket.
Gameplay
All you need is a mouse!
A bunch of customers will come to attempt to siege the supermarket each day. The hoards get bigger each day, so you need to buy and build items from the catalogue to help defend yourself.
Hover over the items in the catalogue to find out more about them, and click them to purchase them. The green spots will tell you where you can place your defences - click on them to place your item! After placing a defence there is a cool-down period before you can place it again.
You get payed by the hour, and each morning you get a daily bonus of extra cash and an increased wage!
You can also use perks to increase the effectiveness of your turrets, but these only last for the duration of the day you bought them on.

Game was a bit too easy for me, maybe you could lock the more advanced weapons at first? Or add more enemies?
Graphics and sound were nice !

I liked the open layout of the supermarket where you can place the barriers because it adds a nice tactical element. But I would have liked if it would have been possible to remove the barriers because on my first try I didn't make a fully optimized layout and so made it only to day 15. There were also a few lulls where you did not have much to do but watch your defenses.
Great accomplishment though and big props for using python for this!
@niklasriewald Thank you very much! Yeah, the removing barriers issue is my biggest regret about this...
@43sam I did find the progression a bit of a challenge, and it is definitely something that requires a lot more refinement... but thank you for playing and I'm glad you liked it :)
@the-jahn Thank you, I'm happy you like it!
@timetravelhamster Thanks! If only I'd added more customers and did some more work on the wave spawner... perhaps I spent too much time adding polish over features, who knows :P
@codingninjajoas Not a compliment I get very often lol! but thank you very much, it did turn out a lot better than I was expecting
@verrazano Yeah, the difficulty curve does need work....
Well done as is.
Once I had place all my barrier I did had much else to do and it become a bit boring at the end just watching the turret feed the customers.
Also it's a bit weird but the turret does not target the customers the closest to the exit.
I found a tiny bug: the healthbars are shown behind barriers if there is a barrier on the tile directly above a customer.
Nice game ! I made it till day 12.
@lookslikesomething me too but, I didn't wanna risk starting to code that in with 1 hour to go though... lol
@jonaspk thank you for your kind words! I did decide to focus on more features rather than fine tuning the balancing, and I settled on something that'd be good enough for jam purposes. Thank you for playing!
Gameplay-wise, I think this is really good and reasonably complete, but I really wish it was a bit faster-paced and more difficult.
