-- GRAVITY -- (Play in your browser!)

Gravity is a game about keeping your ship and it's crew alive! All the instructions are in game when you start, controls are Cursor and Left Click only. Have fun!

I really wanted to get some progression features into this, there's a lot of code ready and waiting to have upgraded ship parts. Better fuel efficiency, thrust speed, resource collection speeds. But time just didn't allow unfortunately.

Hopefully I got across the main mechanic though, which was surviving the void of space and dodging those damn asteroids!

Lovely game! I love the idea and the great execution. The art is great and overall just a great game!

This is cool, Nice mechanics, I would like to have seen some sort of slow mode since it can get quite difficult to get a proper orbit going. The preview line could have been a bit longer too. the player responds a bit slow to the mouse position, which makes it more difficult to change directions fast. But this is a great game overal! good job.

Nice! I think this is a really cool and unique mechanic and I like the way you've executed it. The controls are simple but I found it actually quite challenging. Good job!

Interesting game, it was really satisfying getting into orbit and sling shoting round planets. Really good entry!

Cool mechanics, although its easy to get flung into space...so realistic aswell! Bravo!

Would love to see a game with that core mechanics and more content, maybe an adventure, or rpg, dunno, great one tho :)

The mechanics are really well-executed, but I had hard times at the beginning, also nice mood, great entry.

Cool game, i like the theme. what are you using for orbital mechanics? real n-body physics? Anyways good job.

Very cool game! Takes a while to get the hang of the orbiting mechanic but then it feels awesome when you pull it off!

I really liked this submission, the core mechanic worked really well. I did find i couldn't close the planet info once opened which made seeing where the orbit line was harder!

Nice mechanics. I had a lot of fun slingshoting around and getting into the far distance. At some Point I think i got abroad, there were no Planets anymore and I was just flying along, enjoying the darkness around me. At some point the screen became reddish. I thought i was nearing the sund or a star, but i guess it was just fuel getting empty. Even when fuel was point i was stillable to fire the rocket. If i didn´t close the game, I think the spaceship would still fly through the dark, with the Oxygen-number decreasing far more in the negative (-101 and going). I liked the realness of the Game, even though i think at some Point the operator runs out of Oxygen itself. To space and beyond. Peace, Love and Harmony :D

That's a good catch, I completely forgot to actually handle oxygen running out!

Found it really hard, but orbit mechanics are always fun to toy around with, so it's fun even when you're failing :D Doesn't really fit the theme that well though. ;)

I got to the sun. How far in is that?

Fantastic physics engine. I've tried developing space/gravity simulators in the past, and they're certainly not easy to get right. You got that.

Definitely very difficult controls...at first. Got really far at one point once I learnt the best timing to fire the thrusters. Once you work out the engines, the rest of the physics kick in and everything makes sense.

That said, I still found achieving an orbit to be nearly impossible. I think you have a fun game without the resource management. Think of an endless runner with your controls. Your score will be how far you manage to fly your ship. A game about achieving maximum speed/distance for minimal force and energy. That's the magic of slingshooting right?

Very fun game. The oribitng is challenging to pull off and thus rewarding when you get it, and gameplay is smooth. At first I was frustrated that orbits aren't stable, but it makes total sense from a design perspective to push players to keep moving. I'm really impressed by projected path line, is it just using an algorithm that takes in all the gravitational forces? All in all, well done!

Tricky controls but still very fun!

Finally my Kerbal Space Program time was worth it

I like the interface - especially the zoom out function to see what's coming ahead. The game difficulty brought some frustration… Somehow I couldn't figure out how to move the ship in an appropriate direction…

Cool concept but quite tricky to control. Had fun trying to get far though.

Really love this game! The orbital mechanic was a lot of fun to mess with, and I enjoyed creating "chains" of slingshot maneuvers with planets in close proximity. Great entry!

Looks like we've chosen the same mechanic lol, I really like your take on it being a more realistic space game though

awesome game, i love those kinds of games!
at first i didnt realized that i can zoom out with the mouse wheel,... (but maybe because i havent read it :-|

congratulations and keep it up!

Very addictive game! I've played about half an hour and still cant orbit. Especially with asteroids which you avoid first times 'cause scared explode ship (they don't) and next avoid because they change your direction (they do, DAMN!). Awesome!

Good idea to place planet in the row for accelerate ship speed! To infinity and beyond!

And I was suprised when misclick on planet — shows info about planet, cool!

Nice graphics. The game was a little confusing. I am so bad at games that I got flung out into space almost every time. Why can you have -Oxygen? Good job, and keep making games!

@schizoinside thanks for the feedback and playing for so long! It's actually intentional that you can't achieve a perfect orbit. You've got to be constantly be adjusting due to other planets and asteroids.

A good tip though, focus on the _opposite_ side of your orbit, it's a lot easier to control that by slowing down or speeding up than the peak of the orbit close to you!

The physics applied on your game are incredible ! Even if I didn't go far (it was too hard for me x) ), I recognize the great work done on your game, once again I want to say nice work for the physic system !

The only thing that it misses a lot in your game, it is the sound design, it would have been to have sounds to get some feedback.

Overall good work !

@edalbung thanks for playing! Gotten a lot of comments about the physics, it's actually really simple. Just copied in the main equation from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton%27s_law_of_universal_gravitation and tweaked the value of G so it worked with much smaller numbers! (ish, the planets are still a couple million kg of mass)

Sound design I honestly just completely forgot until I started playing other people's games and realised mine had none :scream:

BY FAR THE BEST GAME UNTIL NOW!!

It really made me want to play Kerbal again, tho haahaha
The game could use some sound Fx, tho "No sound in space", sure, but you are controlling the ship and a lot of noise happens inside the ship...

Except for that, GREAT GAME!!!

For me it was a 5Star game ^^

Nice gravity simulation! It brought me back to all the hours I played Osmos :D
It was a little bit difficult though to get proper orbits..... Having a slowmotion feature (again inspired by osmos) and stronger thrusters would help probably.....

@shunaky thanks for playing! I'm loving all the KSP comparisons. Many hours playing that is the only reason I can actually control the orbits properly I think!

@kfischer-okarin the slow motion idea is really cool actually, might have to add that if I carry on after the jam ends. I do have plans for upgrades for the thrusters and such, even possibly an orbit auto-correct but I have no idea how I'd balance that honestly.

I'm really impressed by the game. I had to spend quite a bit of time to learn controlling the ship correctly. Getting in nice orbits is enormously satisfying. I once tried to make a similar game so I know how hard it is, especially given the time limit.
I often got thrown out of the orbit zone just a little bit, disrupting the fuel/oxygen collection.
I'd probably like the thrusters to be a bit more powerful, at times I felt like a rock floating through space, unable to do anything.
The ability to pause and/or restart would be useful. I managed to lose all fuel and oxygen, and I kept floating.
Overall, awesome game!

@thejonu thanks for playing! That's a good catch about floating off into space actually, normally oxygen running out would end the run but since it's bugged that won't be the case :worried:
