Suggestion for a post-compo change: Set a spawn limit that ramps up over time alongside the spawn rate, and only spawn new enemies if the cap hasn't been reached yet, should lessen the sudden and intense death spiral and smooth out the difficulty curve a bit.
The art style is wonderful, the sound effects feel good and the game is fun!
I love it, congrats!

Here's my feedback:
* I liked how the dropped "A" pods fired projectiles - neat idea
* It's a good challenge, but could use some adjustments so it doesn't go zero to a hundred super fast
* I think the sfx could use some tweaks to make sounds more unique
* Some music would help it be more engaging
* The controls were explained on this page, but not in game, so I didn't initially know what right click did until I read it here.
