LIFE IS HELL is a Platformer for Ludum Dare 45.

HOW DOES IT WORK

Jump around and try to catch blue stars to get a shield which prevents damage from lava and other traps. Explore the 5 Levels to win the game.

FAQ

Why no boss like in the cover?

Because we did not have enough time.

The jump glitches...?

Yeah its the first time we developed a jump like that. We are not game developers but we tried.

I am stuck in the wall?

Yeah its a bug. Try to jump or use god mode shortly to fix your position.

Who made this game?

This game is made by 3 people. We do not have experience with game development and tried to start with a jump and run game and it got pretty much to do for us which got us in trouble at the end of the jam. So the game got not finished.

What did you use to build this game?

Javascript, PhaserJS, MS Paint and some ruby scripts (ImageMagick).

It was an enjoyable game to play. I enjoyed being able to fly around by holding double jump against a wall rather than using the level editor. Designing your own level to get over obstacles is fun though. It's a neat concept overall and it was fun.

I died so many times on that first jump, then I discovered double jump. I couldn't get passed that part where there's a huge wall though. Nice platformer!

Made it to the second level but couldn't get past the first jump. Controls took some getting used to, especially the double jump speed (which seemed significantly faster than the initial jump). I liked the music track. Not bad!

Had a little trouble with the first jump but once I realized it was impossible to make with a single jump I figured out I probably had a double jump and it all went pretty smoothly from there. Also liked the music its a simple loop but it helps break up the monotony of when I fail a jump for the fourth time.

Suggestion for the art, for backgrounds and what not, lower the contrast of the colors or throw a transparent grey/black over it as it allows the platforms to pop out better. Physics are a bit janky, usually momentum carrys through when youre moving, so you dont suddenly stop etc. I suggest going for some acceleration/deacceleration!

importance of play testing!
Have a friend or two play it before submitting, couple hours to give you time to balance it.
Number one mistake is making the game too hard to complete, people are more likely to give it worse ratings.
