Turtemple by jandourek

[raw]
made by jandourek for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Description: A short adventure/puzzle game about 3 sacred turtles that hold the world together. It's up to you to keep them alive from evil cultists, who want to throw the universe off-balance.

Credits:

Art and music: Qvuaksna

Programming and additional art: jandourek

Note: We were a bit too ambitious and the game ended up being fairly buggy and unpolished. We still hope you enjoy it! :)

Known bugs: - The final cultist just straight up doesn't attack if you leave and re-enter the room. (Fixed in Patch 1) - Items and turtles can sometimes get stuck in walls or doors. - Picking up the second shield will cause the first door to close, so make sure you take anything you need out, or just don't pick up the shield.

Changelog:

Patch 1 (21/4/2020) (Note: We encourage you to play and rate the original version of the game first. The patch only adds an additional challenge that stopped working shortly before release.)

  • Fixed bug, where the final cultist would stop attacking if you left and re-entered the room (so basically every time).

Deamn, this game needs more attention, the pixel art is fantastic and the gameplay is funny even if I found some bugs during the run, good theme interpretation also, good job :D

Your game looks so good. I hope you'll finish it later because you have a solid foundation to start with.

I guess I'm not smart enough - what am I supposed to do? I figured out how to pick up the shield and the turtles but I had no idea what to do with anything other than use the shield to prevent me and the turtles from dying...

Love the graphics. Love the sound.

Didn't care for the game play personally. There are definitely some tweaks that need to be made.

Fun game, but very unforgiving. I got sucker shot by enemy entering the screen and also it took some time to get what I need to do, but the mirror thing was innovative. Graphics are stylish :)

I really liked this one! The pixel art is delightful, and the music is really nice too. Would have liked to have seen some other sfx. Mechanically it was quite neat, I liked the mirror bit, and the other puzzles were fun too. Was able to finish after a few tries, but overall thought it was quite good, well done!

What an amazing pixel art this is! You put so much work and detail to every tile. It was a great experience playing and I can only imagine this one to have much more levels after the event! Really well done congratulations

I really like what this game is trying to do, but it is very unforgiving. Some of it is me just playing bad, but other times I never even see what kills me. A couple of times I'd enter the next room only to die instantly. I assume a spear was being chucked, but I couldn't even see it in that split second. Maybe some player feedback on what killed them would help. Like freeze the screen on impact for a second or two.

It's a shame because otherwise I was really enjoying the game. The graphics and music are great. The puzzles are interesting and fun. I would love to see this developed further.

Thank y'all for your comments and ratings, we finally get to that 20 count, woohoo!

Most of the game flaws were caused by the lack of time, you see. Like, we had some ideas on some screens, animations, sounds and stuff, but we did not make it in time. There's lot of unused material in our folders, but we're pretty exhausted now.

The main problem was, a puzzle game like this really needs time to think out well all the puzzles, 'cause that's the whole gameplay. We're glad we've thought out and implemented the three rooms :D

I see why the game is unforgiving, but it's also very short. Once you figure out how to do stuff, you can finish it in no time. Keep in mind both you and the turtles can die by the same means. If you ever died and did not know the cause, I assume a turtle fell to a bottomless pit.

But hey, I don't want to dismiss by my rambling any of your feedback, we've glad you played our game and found stuff to like about it.

Bless y'all!
