JustStart by Decappoolla

[raw]
made by Decappoolla for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

So the theme says "Start with nothing". But I think it be hard to actually start a game with literally "nothing". I think many LDer might design a game where you earn basic game function or sth like that. I wanna go different.

And this occurs to me: A scene with nothing but only the word "start". Then I think of making a game that urge you to start it but just won`t start.

I made a puzzle game that focus on the part in a game before the game starts. I did not wanna waste my friends' time(cuz I might quit this any time) so I only have myself, and I'm a kinda lazy person, so I only made 5 levels. Sorry about that!

This Game only involves left click and scroll wheel of the mouse. No key on the keyboard is needed.

I ran into some problem but I think I had fixed it. Please leave a comment if anything is wrong again. And also, please mention if you got stuck at any level. I have no idea whether players will think as the way I assumed.

The puzzles were clever. Of course I had to come back and read the controls first. After that I enjoyed all the momments when I came up with the answer. Reminds me of pony island in a way. And don't be sorry about the level amount, better to have five fun levels than ten "meh" levels. :D I enjoyed it.

Spent quite a while on the second level but eventually played through all of them. Interesting take on the theme, simple and fun!

I am honestly not nearly smart enough for most of these puzzles, but the ones I could complete were really fun! The take on the theme is also genius. I'd love to see this expanded into a full game with several levels! (and maybe a hint button... hehe!)

@santiago-merino OK got it. There surely isn't enough hint in this one. The hint is SPIN it if you still wanna try

That's a good start, now make the full game. ;)

It's nice to see a "Find a button" style game every once in a while. This one has some nice puzzles, though I'd have really preferred if scrolling wheel wasn't used. First, because when a game tells me it's mouse-only, I instinctively think of mouse curses + two buttons, and second: because scrolling wheels tend to get broken and I generally wouldn't rely on them as a required control.

Scrolling wheel aside, I've found the game to be pretty enjoyable. Good job.
