Bargaining with Supreme Beings So They Don't Destroy Us All by garygreen

About

The Supreme Beings demand offerings to avoid everything from being destroyed. They're fussy about them as well, and demand a specific offering from you, the Novice Adulator. Find the right one and deliver it to the place of adulation, so the Supreme Beings don't destroy everything. While you're wandering around, talk to some of the locals and find out what they think about their overlords. Avoid the gaze of The Watchers, who do not like Adulators. The Watchers look in all 4 directions (up down left right), but can't see past any blocks/walls in those directions. The key is to work out the route through the rooms containing Watchers, and avoid being in their direct line of sight.

To Play

Control your character with the arrow keys. Arrow keys do everything in this game - move and interact with objects and characters. If in doubt just press the arrow keys!

My idea

I wanted to create a retro style maze game in Bitsy with more game play than my previous Bitsy games. I managed to include a couple of puzzles in it. (1) Choosing the right offering based on a sequence puzzle at the top of the screen. (2) Choosing the right paths through The Watcher rooms. I had other puzzle ideas, but ran out of time. Originally I planned to create the mazes, text and tiles/sprites/items with a tool I'd developed to generate them randomly, but that didn't work out. However, most of the graphics are tweaked versions of the original random tiles, and a lot of the character and item text was randomly generated as well.

Thanks to Adam Le Doux for creating Bitsy.

This was great! Really well-written, crazy-polished music and some really clever methods for creating more active puzzles in Bitsy. I'm gonna spend my £25 well.

Was unable to figure out what to do, watchers kept killing me, but the writing I did see was very amusing.

Thanks for the positive feedback so far. :) The Watchers look in all 4 directions (up down left right), but can't see past any blocks in those directions. The key is to work out the route through the room, avoiding being in their direct line of sight.

Very artistic, good feel. My only problem with it is the long corridors in the leftmost section are kind of a pain to traverse.

I had to talk to the divine being twice before the ending dialog played.

Great feel to the game, I really like the style of it and the humor in your writing. Got a little tedious moving through the maze each time. Great work, keep it up!

I'll say this even before playing the game: the best name ever! Let's see how the game holds up...

Ok, nice! I love the retro art style and while simple the game was really fun! Took me a few tries to figure out how those eyes worked, but at least I got the right offering on the first try!

Great work!

Love the style and colour choices, bold and bright, lovely. And the main character's little dance was awesome. The dialog with the Supreme Beings when I brought the wrong offering made me laugh too :D

I like this graphic minimalism. the text is animated in dialogues - it gives intonation. The dialogs cannot be missed completely (The music is very good

I really enjoyed the puzzle aspect and the amusing dialogue, and it has a cute and cohesive pixel art style. I admittedly died a few times before I successfully got the offering to the house of adulation, though it was satisfying when I did finally make it. Nice work overall! :)

The writing in this is great, liked reading all the dialogue and seeing more of the humour and world building. Took me a few goes to release what the Watchers were doing but once I figured it out it became a lot clearer and easier to navigate around. Liked the puzzles and levels layout which I thought was well done.

The music is great here! The puzzles are a bit easy but fine enough for a compo game. I'll see that 25 pound note soon, I hope  The story is great too.

really liked the concept of this and the puzzle aspect was great. another great example that you don't need fancy graphics and explosions to have a good game. just huge deity that oppresses an entire civilization.
