LEGION by crunchykingcobra

[raw]
made by crunchykingcobra for Ludum Dare 45 (COMPO)

Somewhere in the depths of a high-security base, a 4th dimensional being escapes and takes control of the nearest body. It isn't enough - it wants more.

Speed your way through the base collecting bodies. Dodge bullets with inhuman reflexes. If you get hit, a body will drop, but you have plenty to spare.

legion gif.gif

The concept of an incorporeal being who collects bodies was intended to tie in with the theme of 'start with nothing', although it's a bit shaky I know.

The game is currently Windows only, but I plan to port a html5 browser version after I fix a couple bugs.

The game will restart if you die, and at the moment is score-based. If you have fun please post your best score in the comments.

This game was created in Gamemaker Studio 1.4.

I have included the project folder to the game.

Software used:

  • Gamemaker Studio 1.4
  • Beepbox (sounds and music)
  • GraphicsGale (sprites)
  • paint.net (additional sprites)

This game was created by Drasnus/CrunchyKingCobra for Ludum Dare 45.

Nice work! Dodging could use better feedback. Very twitchy, but it's fun! Almost a stealth puzzle game with timing door openings to not get shot.

Great job! I only wish it was longer! The graphics feel amazing for a LD game. Good reuse of assets to be able to achieve that.

This game looks incredible considering the time you had! I really like the mechanics in the game and I ended up playing through it a couple of times now. The dodging can get a little bit funky every now and again, but other then that, the game is really good. Awesome work :)

Other than the upward dodge being a bit touchy this is one of the best games from the jam I have played. Good job.

I love the pixel art, very impressive for a Compo! Although the controls were awkward at first, I eventually got used to them. The dodging gets kind of weird when two people are shooting at you at once. All in all, great game. I think the game mechanic was well pulled off and enjoyable to play.

Wow! This is really good.

The music, the graphics, and the gameplay are all fantastic and come together to make a great creepy atmosphere.

If I had to nitpick, an explanation of the score multiplier might have been nice, and the ending was a little anti-climactic. Anything other than an empty room would have been great, even just getting out of the facility to the outside world...

But these are both minor complaints. This game is really impressive.

My high score is 7400 points :)

Amazing graphics. Love the concept and the gameplay mechanic, could've been cool to have matrix-like dodging but not really that necessary, its' really fun as is :)

Great work!

Very cool and unique, very much on theme. Interesting take with using the bodies as lives. I got fully engaged in this one all the way to finish. Great job!

Nice execution of the theme. I especially liked how you used the time limitation to come up with a concept where you could use the same sprite.

Awesome work :3 This looks and sounds pretty slick. I had a little difficulty dodging multiple shots from the same enemy after their first shot but that could just be me :P

I love the all animations and the concept. Gameplay is super fun and dynamic, and the mood is thick and creepy. One of my favorite games of this Jam for sure!

Feel quite hard at first but soon find it great fun after get adapted to dodging enemy bullet. Really nice one, the only minor annoyance is that it's almost impossible to dodge when two enemies shot me at the same time(I got enough bodies to take the damage though).

Really cool game that feels super smooth to play. The animations were great and the audio was fantastic. Found it a little difficult to dodge shots from multiple enemies at once, but it was never a real problem. Great job!

It's a quite difficult game, and checkpoints were really lacking at some point. Anyway, it was fun & interesting, and the animations are really cool! Well done :)

high difficulty, but engaging. maybe change the animation to be more smooth? and a BGM will be great.

Wow, that felt like an amazingly complete experience. Hard as nails, but I could steamroll through with just the strength of numbers, although I guess I can't get a good score that way! Control felt super nice and responsive, and all the little details, red flashes and other graphical feedback were JUST right.

And really, collecting bodies that way felt just so strange and surreal. It was awesome!
