Story

You are Bob.

You've lived your life alone, happily, for quite some time. You've got a real healthy collection of toilet paper on your property. And if it wasn't for the Zombrona Virus, it would have stayed that way, these damn zombies are obsessed with the stuff.

Keep your toilet paper collection alive!

Good game, and the music makes it so much better

@fermingimpel thank you! I put a lot of effort into the music :)

Super cool, I really like the voiceover and the zombie death animation is really nice. :)

Really cool! Reminds me of the flash games I'd play as a kid. I like a lot of the minor details in the graphics, especially the different zombie looks. Nice balance in difficulty too, I actually had to try really hard to get the last gun but I did get there eventually

I really like the audio in this game, the gunshots, the voices, and the music are all very well done! I would have liked some more variety in the enemies, they get kind of repetitive (maybe this comes later, I didn't get so far).

I have a bone to pick with this game. Those zombies are TRYING to be helpful. They may be ignoring social distancing protocols, but they are each carrying their own personal supply of of bog paper.

This game is somewhat similar to my game, I like it. The voice acting from the shop keeper is pretty funny, the music and sound effects are good. I think maybe the difficulty raises a bit too fast though. Pretty good entry.

@squirmonkey thanks for the feedback :) I had no shortage of zombie ideas, however I did have a shortage in time. Definitely wanted to add more content.

@fezezen Thanks, and I'll check your game out :) Difficulty was hard to get right, I've really got no experience in balancing games, so that'll improve as I do. Thanks for checking it out :)

@tso lol :D

Hey, great job with this! I read that this is your first game. you have done well for someone just starting!

The controls are very tight and the game feels appropriately difficult while not being impossible. And the audio was well done.

All in all, quite good. Keep up the great work!

Nice game. Reminded me of the indie Dos games I played as a kid in the 1990s.

Pros:
- I like the voice overs, they add some nice atmosphere to the game
- Cute graphics

Cons:
- You can't start the game if you buy a shotgun, but not a pistol

Very cool - simple idea but executed nicely with good polish AND very nice sound and music.
Are the spikey haired zombies meant to charge THAT fast? Hard to play with just a laptop trackpad but also need to get good I guess

Great work mate, best I have played so far.

@battlecat Your con is a bug :P Your money is supposed to reset after game over, but it doesn't. My bad for hard coding the button state to the buying of the pistol hah. Thanks for the feedback :)

@ch4oticau ooh I thought that might be it, seeing as the number of money you started with seemed to be different every time :)

Wow great entry. Obviously mechanically its quite well done, and graphically it looks nice, but my favorite part is the audio by far

Fantastic job!

The recorded voice audio clips were funny, the music feels a little out of place after a while but it's fun.

I felt a little sad when I didn't get any extra "damage" for hitting a zombie in the head, so it always took 3 shots with the pistol regardless.

The difficulty felt like it spiked really quickly really early. Maybe more quicker rounds with fewer zombies building up over a slightly longer time to give the player more time to get use to the controls and dealing with the bigger waves.

Personally I had more difficultly in the third or fourth round as the shotgun just couldn't put out enough damage and was slow to shot, I was wondering if I had to go back to the earlier weapon to keep up.

@magnusfurcifer Glad you liked it, thanks for playing :P

Thanks @kjscott for the feedback. 100% agree on the difficulty curve. My difficulty math was definitely flawed. I will fix it when all the results come back from this Ludum Dare, along with a few bugs others found :)

Thanks again for playing mate

That was one of the best LD games I've played. Brought me back to the old flash game days. I love your voice over lines they were super funny and the game play was very satisfying.

The game is great. How did you manage to make the gun sounds and shell casing sounds? I tried making different gun noises for my game but found it difficult. Ended up just going with some cut clip of myself making machine gun noises. The audio is very impressive.
🎤 Ch4oticAU

@phlip45 Gun sounds were made by banging my fist on the kitchen table, and mixing that with the sound of some hot-cross buns (still in the plastic wrapping) smacking on the same table. EQ'd it up so it sounded boomy with some crispiness and yeah. I just mixed a bunch of sounds really.

That was fun! Nice voice acting, well balanced (I think) and the progression with better weapons and decisions to buy more ammo vs a bigger gun. (While I am not sure - in level 4 there are these fast running toilet paper enthusiasts - could they be stopped with something other than the rocket launcher?)
Many points for humor and great work for the first game! (and also made with  using Godot!)

Great game! Some of the best sound effects/music/voicing so far. The progression felt natural as well and the guns were satisfying to use! Overall this was very solid :)

Always love a ludum dare with voice acting, bravo. Very playable, nice simple premise, solid sound effects. Would have liked the ability to swap weapons with the mouse wheel so i could keep my hands on WASD, but otherwise the controls were fine.

Nice action game! It's very fun, but I found it a bit hard. I'm not sure if it's intended but when you lose, you still keep the money, so that let me step up my gear.

Totally loved the voice acting.

@albertnez It's a bug that it gets so hard so quickly, I didn't have time to properly balance the game. But luckily it's also a bug that you keep your money after a game over. 😂

That was a very cool and fun game! The music and sfx were very good and graphics were nice pixel art style and the dying animations were done with care. Very solid entry to the compo and good job on doing all that in 48 hours!

great game man! the voiceover is super funny. i was surprised that the zombies dont hurt you and that the rocket doesnt explode on impact, but those things were funny to me too. keep it up!

Nice entry nice shooting nice dead zombie.

Just one little thing is that I can hit and probably kill zombie before they enter the screen and so probably lose the precious loot.

Great game, good music and voice, but some sounds fx (when you hit a zombie) only play in the right side of the headphone

Good gameplay, but I was expecting the rocket launcher to explode zombies around

@snowirbis correct, the sound is directional. Probably not really a good idea for a 2D game though. I'll end up fixing this stuff in the post-jam update. The rockets also don't explode due to me running out of time. Thanks for playing :)

@omickron Haha that was the influence :) Thanks for playing.

Nice and simple game, very effective. Not a whole lot of complicated stuff happening, so I guess I'll just give my thoughts on the gameplay balance:

I feel like the rocket launcher doesn't really serve much purpose. It seems too expensive to afford in a single round of gameplay, and once you buy it, it doesn't have too much utility. It seems to one-shot all the zombies... but so does the shotgun, at point-blank range. I think the rocket-launcher should do splash damage to really be effective.

It also wasn't clear from the start that a) the toilet paper rolls gave you money, and b) there were no consequences to touching the zombies. But I guess those two things weren't too hard to learn, so not really a problem.

Also, the first time I got to the third round, there was a glitch (?) where a zombie ran really really fast and I lost instantly (like, it cleared the screen in less than a second). No other zombies ever moved a different speed so I'm not sure what happened.

A personal opinion / nitpick: I don't think I would have gone with the screenshake, I think I would have done some particle effects. But that's my preference.

Overall nice and simple and effective, kind of refreshing after playing some games that I couldn't quite figure out. And of course always nice to see Godot.
