Live for Money - A Pixel Art Economic Simulation/Resource Management Game by GND95

[raw]
made by GND95 for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Resource management/economic simulation game developed in the pixel art style. The goal is to water your money trees until they get mature enough to begin producing money. You can use the money to buy water from the in-game shop. Be alert -- some deals are better than others; there is a dynamic pricing mechanism to the shop requiring players to think carefully before they buy. Additionally, money harvested from the trees is dynamically calculated as well. This adds for extra difficulty and no two games playing alike!!

Maybe the problem is in me, but I can not open the archive.

I've seen a few submissions about "keeping plants alive", but all have taken the theme in a surprisingly different direction. This is no exception; I love the idea that keeping the trees alive equates to keeping the economy alive. Or, your wallet. Whichever. Cool stuff!

@nikond I changed the download link from a RAR file to a ZIP file. This should fix that issue. My friend had the same problem!
@martintale I added the mac version of the game. I made it with Unity but didn't built it for that platform. Completely untested waters though :P

I like the water collecting minigame, it makes it more interactive than a normal clicker game. Unfortunately on my computer it didn't render the background on the screen where you are supposed to water the trees, so all I could see was a blue background.

Nice game! I would add some penalties for searching market for too long. Water collecting is pretty fun!

Nice entry! I found the water collecting super hard and took a while to get some money going but overall a fairly innovative game!

Uhhh this was really hard and not that fun to be honest. I had to spend so much time trying to collect water and it seemed to have no point because it only gave my tree 1 level and if i tried to collect more, the tree went back to 0 afterward... Maybe its just user error but this game is too hard for me.

What resolution does this need to be ran at, because this doesn't look like your screenshots? ^_^

Edit: Seemed to work okay, if I ran in 1920x1080 windowed mode.

The water collecting was interesting, surprisingly engaging for how simple it was! It *really* would have been more interesting with just a little sound, the sound of water bouncing off the pails :). After I had 10 water, I just watered my tree and bought more water and repeated, but never really got anywhere much doing that, maybe up to $17 ^_^.

Also a first-timer.

Lower resolutions are offered but are unplayable.

Also I feel the game not very to the theme. I am not very fond of the money trees, would have preferred regular fruit trees.

Well done! Make me think of Animal Crossing and their money trees!
The water game was quite a skillful game in the end! But was able to get some water and make a beautiful money tree :v: Congratulations!

Water gathering is pretty difficult, which is good to get players to actually buy it. Still a bit tedious, since it takes forever to collect enough water and wait for the growing cooldowns.
