Loopin' Looie by MatthewDavisGames

[raw]
made by MatthewDavisGames for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Poor Looie, he was bored one day on the space station and decided to plug in for some platformer fun. Unfortunately, there seems to be a glitch in the code and Looie is stuck in a loop, replaying Level 1 forever!

This is my first attempt at Ludum Dare, my first time creating my own art, my first WebGL build and my first platformer!

This is a very basic platformer, you play as Looie, an Astronaut (You know, because he's in a space suit) who just wanted to play a simple game, but is now stuck inside on Level 1!

Controls: - [Arrow Keys] to move left/right - [Space] to jump/select menu items

Also supports most game controllers. - [Start/Options] button to pause the game - [Dpad] to move left/right - [Jump] to jump

Great game I really liked it. But still there is a bug on the jumping when you can stand on side of rock without being on it, and I recommend you to change the score looks on the left side to something prettier but out of that I LOVED the graphics and the game is fun.

Welcome to LD compo. Maybe zoom out a little the camera could increase the visibility in front of the player. not seeing the target platform is challenging.
Anyway well done.

Nice platformer with relaxing music and cool visuals. Do the coins have some function?

I really liked the graphics. Great job for your first time doing your own art. You could have fooled me. It was a bit hard to see the platforms, so while the platforming wasn't technically hard, it was a little frustrating.

The game can be a mood booster for me <3
Loved the art and gameplay
Character movement is smooth and loved the rotating platforms <3
Great game overall
Found a bug - You can click the pause button even in main menu and it gets stuck besides the play panel

I was impressed with the fact that you got moving platforms in, so that when you jump, you inherit the velocity from the platform you were standing on - I thought that was very clever, until I came across a bug! If I jumped just before the moving platform changed direction, the player would change direction mid air too - to follow the platform!

It must be that you parent the player to the platform when they land, but you didn't unparent them while they're in the air. As a result, I missed the jump, and then it tried to warp me back to the start, but glitched and I just got stuck warping into the void...

Oh and another small thing, if I double tapped jump, it would open the settings menu. I assume the navigation on the top right button is set to "Automatic", and just needs to be swapped to "None"

Other than that, I love the artwork (I'm a big fan of that low poly style) and the music was pleasant too (if a little repetitive after a while).

Nice job!

Graphics were really awesome. Music fitting.

I really really liked the turning platform. Was quite mindboggling

Standing on the side of the platforms is a little buggy though.

Overall nice experience :)

The game looked great, loved the style and animations. The music was good but the jumping volume was a bit to high. The movement and jumping felt good but if you press space twice you open the menu, maybe this was intended but was a bit annoying.

Not too bad for the first platformer and first Ludum Dare! Nice graphics and a good idea regarding the theme!

A few things I found weird: First, the double SPACE opens the menu, which gets in the way, also, menus seem to stack, for some reason. The way the player basically stuck to the platforms seemed a bit weird, but that may be considered as a feature

Lastly, I would have liked a volume control for music and sound, because that was very loud for me.

Still, good work putting all of this together in such a short time, and most importantly, on your own! The game looked very well polished for a game jam game by one person!

I read your description about being your first time at all here. Don't worry and keep developing, Stir whenever you won't regret it. The game has good graphics and good music. Congratulations!

Nice graphics and music, and the platforming was interesting, especially the 3d rotating platforms with 2d gameplay.

The rotating platforms seemed to have a bug, causing them to break the 2d spell. If you walk up onto the bushes while the platform is rotated 90°, then wait until it's normal, walk to the end of the bush, and wait for another 90° rotation, you'll have been pushed far enough outside of the regular 2d gameplay plane that weird things start happening:

I did this twice. The first time by maistake, and I tried to ignore it and just jump to the next platform, but it was small and I was at the wrong depth, so I missed it. I also think I missed the death collider, because the level didn't restart. The second time I did hit the death collider, but the camera went crazy trying to reset.

Nice one for a first jam :) Some checkpoints may have been nice to make the game more forgiving :)
