Turtle VS Trash Vortex by deviantdear

[raw]
made by deviantdear for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Turtle vs Trash Vortex is a game that was created by combining the themes from Nasa Space Apps Challenge and Ludum Dare. You play as Slorp the Turtle with his custom vacuum pack and you slerp up the trash from the sea while avoiding the fish. It's an Endless Runner where you speed up as you progress through the game and you aim to improve your overall score. It was designed to bring attention to the very real problem of the Trash Vortexes and the Great Pacific Garbage patch but in a playful and engaging way.

Collect the green trash pieces and and avoid the red fish, your health goes down when you collide with the fish and your speed increases the longer you play till you hit 60. Levels are generated randomly. Try to beat your previous high score! You use WASD for movement into the different lanes

Sorry I didn't understand how to try the game (aka without need to rebuild it). And the video at bottom of https://founding-hackers.github.io/index.html doesn't show agameplay

Sorry for the confusion! We have a release build link now where you download the game and we are working on getting a WebGL build up right now. The page is taking awhile to update probably because of the heavy traffic.

Amazing that you managed to combine those event!
The result is really good.

As a general game it lacks in GUI, it is not clear how much health you have.
It is also hard to see what you are eating.

As a game with a point, the fact the it is hard to see the line you are in is a bonus.

Overall a fine game for the ludum dare. (Plus, it is harder to make them 3d, good job!)

The idea itself is really great, I loved it!
It was not clear what line you on, though. So turtle ate everything it wanted to

This game is really cute, I like the clean and colorful visuals. I think the slowness of the turtle to visually align with the line you are in made the controls feel a little meh, I think for a game of quick reactions, some more speed would have felt better. The main menu screen is really cool looking! Overall great work

Slorp the turtle vac is my fav! Audio was great, glad you went with the slurp sfx. only problem was that controls were a little weird, once I moved away from the initial starting point I struggled getting into any path easily. Great Jam entry and of course I dig the message too.

Seems an ok little game, movement feels a little stiff, but some nice effects here and there and some finetuning can fix that. Nice way to create awareness. good job!

pretty fun game. I feel the movement could be a little less stiff. Also, the camera i feel is at a very shallow angle so its hard to determine what color item is coming up down the line, and forces you to try to make a split second decision to avoid 'bad' items.

Very fun overall, and could be even more fun if polished. :D

Nice works, with good concept and meaningful gameplay! Maybe it will be easier to collect or dodge if can increase the distance between each subsequent trash or fish... ^_^
