AA Jumper 2 by Rhiannon

[raw]
made by Rhiannon for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

When we first tried to participated in Ludum Dare we couldn't finish the game AA Jumper in time to upload it. We took our time and completed the towerdefense / platformer game in 2,5D. In this time we thought about a possible sequel in 3D.

This time: LudumDare gave us the perfect excuse to make it from scratch.! Main Menu.PNG

You are an old roboter, built by a very advanced nation. You got the order: "Keep it alive!" Even now, when there are not more than ruins, you feel the need to follow this command. Can you obey this order by building towers and destroying the enemies ships? But careful, the platforms are no longer in good shape. Jump to get to the next intact platform. Towers can be built on specific places, when you have enought metal. Hurry up or your Base will be destroyed!! Flotte.PNG

Thank goes to the team, who made this game possible: - Alfadas (Programming) - Rhiannon (Modelling) - Kruemelkeksfan (Progamming and Modelling)

We will work on this game in the next weeks to complete it.

We hope you have fun!!

Update: We continued to work on this game for the last weeks and fixed some of the issues all of you have told us about (Thank you!). Enjoy Version 0.2!!

Try to keep the scope a bit smaller, for example: fewer avaiable turrets. Then you'd have more time to polish the game. (Animation, Sound, Feedback for the Player (did I hit the airship or not).

I liked the world you created!

Fun concept and the art style is nice :) Being able to move while in the air would help with platforming I feel as I found it difficult to reach the turret platforms consistently. Some indication that the airship is being hit would be helpful as well. The models are quite well done and suit the style of game perfectly. Overall, I think this has a lot of potential :)

Mouse sensitive so high! It soo hard to aim and walks too.

Shows promise, but as others have said it would be better to have fewer features and more polish. Air control, camera shake, better collision and controls would all help a lot!

This game is overall pretty good. I like the graphics. The menus look a bit werid, but the main problem I see here is the movement. It was quite difficult to get from one point to another. I think some air control would have helped.

The world is pretty interesting, but yeah the mouse sensitive is a thing. I liked more id you worked a little more in UI, looks so simple.

Cool concept but the controls are really tedious. It lacks air control and my character is frequently bouncing on things, so it's very difficult just to move around properly :/ Also just a quick feedback to let you know if you've hit the enemies with your gun would be a nice addition, currently I never know if I shot right.
Congrats for making it this far though

cool mix of fps & towerdefense - works mostly well, iam a bit unhappy with the glitchiness of movement/jumping (no air control, or sudden jumps on landing), though it gives you a additional challenge. The map looks like it was dynamicly generated, and it makes you wish to discover sth. (I know its made in 3 days). However it is beautiful when you have a lot of (stronger) towers and behold the enemy airfleet constantly bombarded by flakfire. The small crafts has the minecraft creeper face as crest :green_heart:

Ambitious submission! :)

That's an interesting submission and nice take on the theme / concept.

Graphics are pretty cool. I love the world you made, it's really great. Aircrafts are also pretty nice (their bombs as well^^). Adding a crosshair and more feedback would help a bit to target enemies / see what's going on, bullet impacts are a good thing but maybe increasing their size.

The gameplay has a good base. Controls are kinda clunky / tedious, it's quite hard to go anywhere, adjusting the jump height and the friction with walls (well, physics with walls?^^') could help but other stuff like firing is correct and responds well. I had a weird bug where the mouse cursor disappeared / reappeared for nothing at times and in the menus, I pressed ESC to close them but it asked me if I wanted to quit the game.^^" Another bug I had was when buying a turret, I bought it but it never appeared, the blue square stayed the same and nothing happened.

Anyway, there is a great variety of stuff do to, that's a good point, but there may be a bit too much variety for an LD game. But well, it's great to be ambitious and experiment things in LD. If you like this kind of challenge, go for it. o/
In this case, maybe giving the player a bit more metal scraps when he kills an enemy would help enjoy the wide panel of turrets you implemented (and a bit more quickly).
The bombing mechanic is really well made, it's pretty cool to see aircrafts dropping their bomb on the base. Adding a bit more feedback like a little screenshake or something would make it more impactful.

Well, as I said it's ambitious. It was interesting to playtest, I liked the concept a lot and I would gladly play an updated version of your game. The world is really cool and pretty, models (aicraft, gun, ..) are also great. :)

Great job guys! o/

It's a good game, and I got a bit of fun out of it, but my main complaint is the the movement. If the movement was a bit smoother and not so buggy, I think this game could be loads better. But this game definitely has potential!

I feel as if the world is way too big for what you're trying to achieve. My advice is to scale down your game and focus on the core components. Do you need to be in such a huge ravine? Also wielding a handgun to take down airships seems a bit out of place. I liked the look of the airships and the world in general, but just felt it was too big

Thank you all for your feedback. Yes, the game is not realy in the scale of ld, but it is not realy meant to be. We like the idea and just wanted to use ld as a startpoint for the game.

@ogma Since you gave such great feedback and you asked for an updated version - I just wanted to notify you diractly about Version 0.2 we released today. I would be glad to get more helpfull feedback about the changes from you.

good entry, I had fun, although some collider missing that made me trespassing objects, the graphics are very good and like the mix of genres.
