Loop of Doubt by King_Cacti

[raw]
made by King_Cacti for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

my first Ludum dare!! my game is small and simple and probably has alot of bugs but i dont have any more time to work on it. In my game you work in a brain of a human as a defender and you must defend the brain from members of the loop of doubt to keep your human safe. if you fail your human will be forever stuck in a loop of doubt and worry.Capture.PNG

I got fairly far, then the counter looped back on the same run. I know its the same run because the enemies didnt despawn. Great idea though.

I'm not sure if I like it. The reference to the theme is almost non-existent, everything is in a plot, the gameplay itself does not refer to the theme.

BUT, as it is your first time attending game jam, congratz mate, this is the first little step.

Congratulations for finishing your first game Jam. I hope you learned a lot and had tons of fun! That's what it's all about.

The game is buggy and far from perfect, but that does not matter. It is your first game!

@bukkaketears Yeah I know the reference to the theme was little, I was planning to make more connected but I ran out of time and had to throw something together, thank you though

Nice art and snappy movement controls. I've never clicked so much in my life. I also now have a fear of brain monsters.

I did get stuck in an actual loop while playing, though. The game clock kept resetting every 60 seconds so I couldn't progress.

Great work for your first LD Jam. I hope you had fun!

Also, since it's your first jam and you may not know how this works, you will need to play, rate and give feedback on other peoples' games if you want to get more feedback (and a score) on yours - otherwise the site basically makes your game invisible in the Play and Rate list. You need 20 or so ratings to receive a score.

@human-writes-code ah thats a bit weird, it wasn't supposed to get stuck in a loop- i mean no that was a totally intentinal game feature,, yes totally ( dont think it matters anyway cause theres really nothing after the 120 seconds, just an end screen) . and yes i am aware about playing and rating games but these last few days ive been out of town without wifi so i haven't been able too rate or play but im gettin on that now! thank you for your feedback about the controls, bit new about this whole coding thing so wasnt sure if i was doing it the best way. Watch out for the brain monsters!

@king-cacti All good! I just didn't want you to miss out on getting feedback. I didn't know about the play+rate thing when I did my first LDJam and I was disappointed no one played my game.

Haha I like that even the bug you got is part of the theme. Nice entry anyways ! Classic but efficient gameplay, my finger hurts though I would have loved an auto-fire when maintaining the button :D

I don't know if the timer getting back to zero after 60 seconds was intentional, maybe it was a classic beginner mistake that happens when you are using a time variable and checking just the seconds, but when it turns into 60, it actually becomes 1 minute and 0 seconds. Though, with this happening we are indeed stuck in a loop here.

I had fun with it! And I definitely wish that killing my self doubts was that easy.

It was a nice entry, even more considering it was your first and you did all by yourself. Good job!

@orlandobatista Thank you! i had alot of fun with it (i also had alot of stress with it lol) But yes i think i made a silly mistake somewhere but we are just gonna pretend that its not a bug its a feature (theres nothing after once you finish the 120 seconds so i think this glitch actually helps the game lol

Not a bad game. One thing I would recommend is giving more feedback when the player is hit. I was kinda shocked when I died haha.

Good job, especially for a first game jam !
That is quite a good game, the character controller is tight enough, it just lacks a bit of feedback to be really fun. Adding screen shakes, a small animation when an enemy receives damage (there is already particles, which is good, but I want to see my enemy suffer ! ^^) With a bit of training, adding those effects is not so time consuming and adds a lot to the juiciness of a jam game.
Oh, and maybe not having to spam click would be cool...

Movement and audio felt really snappy which actually made this a lot of fun. Took me even a while to realize that the timer was resetting ;)

Including the theme as a gameplay element would have been really nice, especially as the gameplay itself was really simple.

However, for a first-time jam entry this is really solid. You got the movement down and the core gameplay is really fun. I think you'll be able to do really cool things as you participate in more jams!

Very solid entry with fun gameplay. Is something supposed to happen after 120 seconds? Because I didn't see anything.

The quick movement really grew on me after a while. Auto-fire would be appreciated but I was really surprised at how good the movement felt after a couple loops.

It certainly does seem like a bug that the timer resets every 60 seconds directly over text that tells you to make it to 120 seconds.

Great work for a first jam though! It feels good.

This was fun but pretty difficult! It took a lot of hits before something went down, doable in 2 minutes ^^
Well done!

Great job on a first entry. I liked the creepy alien crab thing and I enjoyed the light humour.
