Info

This is a sandbox demo for Pizza Parkour. Pizza Parkour is about shmovement and advanced tech, the story is about being a pizza delivery boy and trying to deliver a pizza within 30 minutes or its free. We wanted to include the looping theme by having the player loop back to the start every time they died so they would have to learn to speedrun the first sections of the game as fast as possible. However, we did not have enough time to implement levels so the theme aspect feel apart a bit. We are all very happy with the end product though and have spent far too much time watching each other do sick tech. Big thanks to Noah Jamaldin for making 3 whole songs for a tech demo.

Controls

WASD - Move

Space - Jump

Left Click - Dash

Right Click - Throw / recall pizza

R - Spawn enemy under mouse (the enemy will attempt to hide from you)

Tech list

PD (Pizza Dash) - throw out a pizza and dash attack into it, on hit a dash can be chained into a second dash attack

APD (Air Pizza Dash) - do a PD in the air

BD (Bonk Dash) - dash into a wall at a 45 degree angle

APBD (Air Pizza Bonk Dash) - jump and throw out a pizza and then dash attack into it, after that chain into a air BD

The APBD is the only tech that can clear the bottom of the pyramid jumps.

Extra stuff:

For our fourth ludum dare we went big. This is the first jam that we used some base code for, namely the movement system which helped us skip an hour or two and go straight into tweaking the movement to feel as perfect as we could. This game jam was also the first one where we committed to two programmers. It was rough at points and we struggled to keep synced, but ultimately it was well worth it for the benefits we gained. Congrats to Smoothie for his first published game jam by the way!

Porting to HTML5 introduced some bugs, so here's the list of fixes:

-pizza correctly pushes you back when thrown out

-pizza always returns to player

-air control allows for turning around

Notes:

The pyramid of gaps has confusing hitboxes. This is because the visual for the walls was not added (it would obscure the whole screen!)

Game is hosted on https://www.freewebhostingarea.com/

If you want to mess with the source code it is provided, you need gamemaker 2 to use it.

This game was super fun! It was very satisfying to hunt down those evil purple squares. And the main character is adorable. Good job :)

The dashing and movement felt great. Too bad you guys didn't have time to finish. Would have been a fun little game.

Good music and I think the game could be fun if it was expanded on. In it's current state it looks like a dev playground. Has potential!

Ahh, it's a shame you couldn't finish it, this one would be a banger. Hope you'll release a game based on the demo, because it's already pretty fun to spend time in. Character art is great, a lot of game feel even through sound is a bit weak and music is way too loud compared to it, and cool movement based abilities. Great job!

The music is very nice, as the animation of the main character. The pizza maybe could come back faster!

Edit, I've just seen the challenges you put in the comments. I will try the game again now, I think you should add like a panel in game so at least you have a purpose and explore the potential of the dash!

I liked throwing the pizza and then dashing into it. Apart from that I didn't find much to do - maybe as you said because it's a tech demo? Anyway, the music was really good and was what kept me in the game.

Unlucky you didn't finish. Seems like a great start. The controls feel nice and tight. Juicy game-feel like hitting enemies stops time for a half sec, then launches them up. Seems like you weren't too far off from a really good entry. Music is good! Character art is good!

The music really slaps in this one. The concept is really great too, props to making it a 2.5D, with the ability to jump onto higher platforms. Sad you were unable to finish many things.
