Driven Round the Loop by JoeShanahan

[raw]
made by JoeShanahan for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

The residents of Loopton are not a happy bunch. The most popular activity for them is to file complaints about the awful road infrastructure. But who can blame them? All of the roads are closed loops, and without proper guidance, they're stuck going round and round forever!

This is where you come in! By placing directional arrows on roads, you can get cars, bikes, pedestrians, or even busses to swap from one loop to another. Be careful not to cause any crashes!

(unless crashes are what's being requested, of course  )

Great game! I'm normally not a big fan of puzzle-ish games, but this one kept me hooked for a while. I really dug the art style and mood, plus the UI look fantastic

Okay that was fantastic ! The concept is awesome, and the government site theme actually got a good chuckle out of me, all that in a polished and fluid package. Plus you can't go wrong with those EXPLOSIONS !

My favorite so far, great work !

What a very good puzzle game completely in the theme! The design of the interface, like a website is very well adapted and clean. And the mechanic is so interesting. The storyline is very nice because for each petition, it's a new way to think (the idea of crashing all the cars for exemple). No Bugs found but the only thing weird is in the "Cycle gang" level : when I put the guy in the park, there were still bikers. So the guy would not be safe there... Another thing, when we have to go through the cross parts of the road, it would be nice to know which numbers in advance rather than discover it like blind test. I didn't find a way to finish the last level. I don't understand if I have to put all the Cycle at the same time on the cross sections of the road? How I can do it with 4 cycles? Anyway. Congratulation. You made a very very good entry with this game.

@matootsy Thanks for the feedback!

There are several inconsistencies with the requirements for the petitions for sure hahah. There's a level with a bus and a bike, and one solution is to simply crash the bike into the bus and then solve it with the bus only. But we felt like if the inconsistency was fun (or at least funny) then we could leave it in.

We absolutely wanted to put in a way to show you the numbers at the start of the level, just like with the zones, but we ran out of time before implementing it.

As for the final level? You have to swap cyclists from one loop to another until they go over 1-2-3-4 in the right order. Once you've got that down, you send the one going over 1 to 5 after the 1 has been triggered. It's kinda hard to explain, so I made a quick video: https://youtu.be/fafnM3uuiGs

Nice puzzle game, impressed by the quality of UI and levels. It's a bit frustrating to have to act fast in a puzzle game, and being able to slow down time doesn't really feel that good of a solution. Some puzzle are a bit obtuse and I kept doing the same stuff that wasn't working just because the time pressure didn't let me really think it through. Anyway, super idea and execution, keep up the good work!

Today I made a difference in the world. I helped people through their struggles, guiding them to happiness. That's how it feels playing this at least, really nailed the mood, while also definitely giving me a laugh over how it's styled like a petition website with stock photos.

Anyway, the amount of level design that has gone into this and how each level has a unique story, and how it all fits into this narrative of helping citizens with their troubles is very impressive for a jam game, great work! And the music really helped immerse me in the role.

I also like how you really only need to solve the issues in the petitions, any other unrelated disaster caused by that goal is irrelevant. Almost reminds me of how things work in the real world sometimes... :joy:

Cool little puzzle game. Love the stock photos lol I thought there were ads on the itch page for a few seconds. There's really only one mechanic in this game which makes it impressive that there are so many different levels. The goals might be the same but having to plan it out more as you get further in the game is nice. Introducing more things that would've led to more puzzle variety would've been cool, but even without that there were a lot of levels for a game jam game. Great work overall!

I absolutly loved it. The puzzles were really clever and the idea of a webpage as a menu was perfect and hilarious. You probably just got my highest rates in this jam!

Don't know who did what, but cheers to the one who came up with the brilliant idea, cheers to the one who made the music and sound effects, cheers to the one who made the 3D models, cheers to the one who wrote the hilarious texts! Everything in this game is perfect!

Excellent game. Actually got stuck for like 10 minutes at the last level.Anyways great entry, great game, good job.No bugs as far as I can see. One thing tho, you could add more music, it's getting a bit repetitive after a while. As for the graphics and effects, good job on that, they are very nice!

There's a lot of solid puzzle games in LD, but this is the only one I've played that is also incredibly funny. What a great little game and kudos to whoever devised the gimmick.

Awesome puzzle game.

I have to admit that I struggled way too long with the 2nd level, where I did not immediately notice that there was an outer track :face_palm:

It works really well! Some levels were quite difficult, but the difficulty curve is really nice. I don't know if everybody experienced the same thing, but for me, music and sound FX stops when I use the pause button.

Love the explosion. Overall, it's simple and well implemented, quite flawless. I liked it!

A very colourful and humorous puzzle game. The main menu screen taking the form of a petitions site is a great touch, as is the fact that you have three puzzles unlocked from the start, so getting stuck on one (as I did) doesn't prevent you from reaching the final puzzle. I especially love how the objective in one of the levels is to cause a crash instead of avoiding one, that's a wonderful little twist.

I wasn't able to solve all the puzzles, but I'll put that down to my own brainpower, and not any issues with the puzzles themselves. Good job, especially with devising such tough puzzles!
