Swamp Witch by RhysD
SWAMP WITCH
The Ghost of the Great Wizard has returned to haunt the Swamp.
Brewing spells under the constant threat of attack from the Great Wizards minions has turned into quite the annoyance for this little witch.
Defeat the Wizard and return the Swamp to peace!
---
A semi-difficult roguelite where you play as a witch on a broomstick.
Controls while flying are the up and down arrows (two button controls!).
All the rest can be navigated with the arrow keys and space bar.

Unfortunately, I had tons of difficulty actually controlling the witch, leading to a very frustrating play experience. Instant death for touching the ground seemed unnecessarily cruel, and bats seemed to be several times as difficult as any of the other enemies. (Do they really need to move, shoot, and deal double damage?)
Also, it seems you can't level up any of your abilities until after you've beaten a boss? That makes progression really hard, and makes it seem kinda pointless after all...
You've definitely got some good stuff here, but I feel like I'd need some difficulty changes before returning to this.
Just one thing, the potions cost too much, if they would have been cheaper, I might have stayed longer to buy them and acutally beat a boss. Good game, just maybe make the potions a bit cheaper ;) (And also, all potions cost x5, maybe have a bit of variety in there too ^^)
Game gives me nice Isaac vibes by the way =)
I felt the pacing/progression was really well done, though since I did play for awhile, I got a bit too OP after awhile.
I thought the difficulty was fair, it did take a bit to get used to the controls/flying but once you do it feels pretty smooth.
I didn't mind the instant death upon crashing because when it happened it felt like my own fault, I'd even suggest adding some sort of wall at the top in a post jam version because I actually got lost up there for a bit when my keys got stuck...plus it would add bit more caution to the game-play.
I really love the simple yet stylish pixel art. I;m also a sucker for "witch" themeing.
The only real "issue" I had was the wizard never died for me even though I got its health to zero (but jam games, whatcha gonna do?)
The graphics are very impressive. The overall aesthetic is very nice, and leads to a nice spooky atmosphere.
I would have liked a small bit of bullet spread to help with aiming. Tapping the keys seems turns the witch about 10 degrees, which makes it very difficult to hit the small enemies.
Combining controls for turning and aiming doesn't seem to work too well unless there is some way to shoot in other directions.
The progression is nice, but a bit unbalanced. I was able to beat the final boss, but only by injecting my broom directly into his forehead and simply winning the DPS race.
The upgrades are nice, but having to purchase ingredients feels like an unnecessary extra step. Also, because of the low precision of the turning controls, I was skeptical of the turn speed upgrade, and ended up beating the game without it.
The bosses were fun to fight at first, but eventually I had seemingly maxed out fire rate, and my damage was high, so I was able to kill most of the bosses without even turning.
Overall, a very good game. It feels like a mix of Rogue Legacy and Luftrausers. If you polish this up, add a couple hours of content, and put it on Steam, I'd definitely purchase it.
P.S. Needs some jack-o'-lanterns.
