Psychopath Basement by Corbak

[raw]
made by Corbak for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Hey everybody! Hope you had a great time during this weekend of the jam :)

Your mission, if you accept it, is to escape a basement of a psychopath that wants to cook you.

You have three people to save and you can either save one, or two, or go crazy and save all three of them! Yay!

The loop theme in the game is that each time you select a character, a timer will reset and his movement will be recorded. So when you will change to another character, the movement you did with the previous one will be replaying. It's you who needs to coordinate your actions in order to escape. It's not going to be easy... but we believe in you! :)

controls: - movement: WASD - Action: E - Throw: Q for cursor and left-click to throw

For more comfort, play the webGL version on chrome or edge, but if you use firefox or want to apprecaite the game, download it! :)

The loop mechanic was epic! Very nice idea! Worked well. I also really enjoyed the graphics of the game and the characters looked fun. Nice work!

Great little game. It took me some time to figure out how to play the game, but well done.

Really interesting mechanic. Very inventive how you coordinate the 3 characters in a point and click. Never saw it done like this before.
Good job!

Loved the mechanics. I managed to kill one of them one time, and make too much noise another time. The idea is really great, although in some cases there's a bit too much waiting around, in my opinion (Or to be fair, I missed some things I could do)
All in all I enjoyed it, and may get back to it later and try to beat it!
Good job and thanks for sharing!

This one is a FANTASTIC use of theme, great level design, and amazing mood. There's some glitches where I was able to open doors without keys in some of the loops, but all in all, you did a great job.

fun game totally recommend it I wish there was a browser port I think this game would benefit from it

Fantastic idea, and really well done. My only complaint is that it was a bit of a pain having to redo a whole set of loops because I was accidentally too efficient one run and then couldn't do it as fast the second time, throwing everything out of whack, haha. Otherwise, very impressive!

Awesome mechanic to implement in a point and click game. I enjoyed it, good job :)

Really cool timeloop mechanic. We see it a lot this ld but this one has the escape room challange attached. I didn't manage to save all just the woman and the old man (the muscle guy was switching the lever and sacrificed himself).

My critcs: Using left and right clicks instead of q and e would be easier i feel. And having a way to fast forward would be a huge timesaver. There also were lots of grammar errors but this didn't throw me of (not my first language either)

What i really liked was the determinism of the actions by the other "teammembers" it worked really well. Even if you threw objects they were trying to use somewhere else then before they still could use them to progress on their path.

@samshine Thank you for your time playing the game and your comment, that's very nice of you :) We appreciate your words.

@givit-game-studios Thank you for your feedback and your time! It's a little bit rough on the edges so it can be intimidating when playing it for the first time yeah, sorry about that :)

@mateusboga Heya buddy, thanks for passing by and leaving us a comment, that's really nice of you! This weekend was hectic and wasn't planned to do it so we didn't had really much time for this one so it's a bit of a mess but we really appreaciate your support! Your game is incredible thoughs, hands down for one of your best entry so far! :) :muscle:

@mekuri Thank you very much for your comment, that is really nice of you :) Yes there is some issue about the waiting process, we will try to think about it maybe in a post LD version cause we can't add new features after the deadline unfortunately, just correcting bug that is all but we can't promise we would do it later, we don't know yet if we will continue working on it after bugfixing. But we thought about fast forwarding time too late. Thanks for your time! :)

@fatalcaca Thank you very much! It wasn't that original as an idea :)

@iron-leonem Yhank you for your feedback iron! We noted it and will try to see what is this issue.

@feiko We are actually looking a way to make it and hopefully we would upload a browser version :) it's a bit tricky for this game because of the use of some shaders that lags it (that's the reason) so we need a way to replace the shaders. Thanks for your feedback!

@faelim Thank you very much for your comment and playing the game! I can understand the frustration when you finally get to solve the puzzle but what is fun for us that we saw is that you can always replay the timer by changing characters, looping the game......indfinitely xD we didn't plan that.. Thanks again !

@aless Thank you for your comment that's very nice! :)

@willoxs Thank you for your time and comment ! We took into consideration what you say about inputs, we will see if we will change that or let it this way for the jam. The spellings we will try to correct them a bit, but as long as you understood it's good! Thanks again for your feedback :)

Love the way you incorporated the theme, the fact that it works so well is a testament to your skill. The art style added a lot of character to the game as well. I really enjoyed the little noises the characters made as well.

Very interesting idea! Could be expanded to a more completed experience. Could be improved by having the possibility to advance to a certain moment of the timeline. Having to wait for the other members to do their stuffs before doing yours isn't really fun. Good work overall!

A really interesting game that demands time and patience. I like how there are multiple ways to screw up and the level design with the balance is amazing.

Like many time loop based games, the planing and execution is quite tedious but the end result is quite satisfactory.

Congratulations on making such an amazing game, best of luck to the entire team for your future projects!

At first I was a bit confused and I didn't get what I have to do (I didn't have the habit to read instructions, sorry ) but when I figure it out I was totally impressed by this. This was one of those games you find and really wanted to reach the end. Really well executed, everything looks very good together, and the puzzle is very challenging and fun to do.
I only manage to release the woman and the old guy, I didn't find the way to get that red key. It was supposed to be a wall collider on that thin barrier? I would love to see a video of you releasing all the three! Send me if you can.
Pretty amazing entry! Good job!

Such a Polished and fun game!. The Graphics Were Great. Having To Sync Up With The Past You Was Neat.

For Some Reason using The Hammer On The Green Gate Crashes The Game. You should Look into That.

@chrispy977 Thank you for your nice comment, I wish we could have more time to polish it and fix all the bugs but we are glad with the outcome for what it is :)

@jonathan-lorenz Thank you! A fast forward button was thought of but due to time constraints we couldn't implement all the stuff we wanted.

@omeletton Weird is the new normal! :D

@kaafirookie Thanks for your nice words, it is indeed tedious but it's nice to see you took time to play!

@landosilva Ah don't be sorry! it's not easy to understand all the stuff happening. And yes the wall colider was a barrier seen from atop, of course I wish I could have spent more time on the art but isometric 2D is not that easy when it's your first try. Thanks!

@whynotyt Thank you for your comment and the bug report, I will talk about it to the team, I am not sure unfortunately we are going to do anything on this jam entry, but we bare it in mind :)

Looks pretty and the game play is very unique and theme fitting, but it was a bit too convoluted for me so I gave up pretty soon.

An interesting looping mechanic, and a nice puzzle game.

I really like how the player learns more about the level over time and can use that knowledge to save everyone.

One problem: Playing everything from the start over and over again gets somewhat tedious (for an LD game), it would have been nice to pick a point in the timeline when switching characters, so you would not have to repeat all the tedium over and over again (like getting the bolt cutters and THEN going through the flamethrowers twice).

@flying-dog-fish Thank you for your comment and your time :) Sorry if you gave up since the mechanics are not polished enough. but thanks for gaving it a try!

@pawciu Thank you for your nice comment! :)

@potti Thank you for you words! :) Yes I understand it totally about the problem and we wanted to add like a fast forward button or something that would not make you wait. But didn't had time for it. There is room for improvements and that's how we will understand what to not do next time! Thanks again! :)
