Fire Escape! by ZechW

[raw]
made by ZechW for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Solve the puzzle to get the characters to the exit alive!

FireEscapeInstructions.png

Mouse Controls:

  • Click fire to Extinguish
  • Click white floor tiles to start new fire

Characters will run away from the closest fire (moving horizontally, vertically, and diagonally), and not move if there are no fires on the map.

Only one character can occupy each tile.

Fire spreads horizontally and vertically to un-burnt tiles each click.

(Finished the second version just after the 48 hr time limit ended)

Made using Unity & Krita

FireEscapeLogo

Didn't get a chance to add any animations, audio, move indicators, or a bunch of other stuff I wanted to add before the deadline. Play the Better Levels version for slightly more polish.

Changelog: * Fix bug in pathfinding GH * Fix sprite rendering order & Exit timing GH

Took a bit of playing to figure out the mechanics, but once I did I cleared it pretty quickly.

Neat little puzzle.

Oh man! Real shame you didn't get the level pack out in time, the game didn't really click without it. I think you should put in some more work on this! Maybe some fireproof floors or something like that. Neat little concept.

Thanks @thedashdude, I agree. Wish I had budgeted a bit more time to UI and level design, since it was so close.

Neat mechanic something to be expanded upon. I would like to see animation for the movement to give a more clear view of how each person is moving.

VERY nice puzzle game. The last level of the second build had me stumped for a good 10 minutes. Hope to see more!

I *love* puzzle games which show me something new. It's a very fun mechanic. It's a shame it's so short (the compo version).

*(Tried the second version)*

Very good puzzle mechanics, nice difficulty curve. It was easy to finish most of then, but always had that "woah" feeling about how I solved the level.

The (first?) big map was nearly done, but sadly 5-6 people were still remaining when I ran out of burnable floor.

Neat concept, keep it up!

Really fun and intriguing puzzle mechanic! It was easy to pick up but still made me think by level three. I think having a slight delay in between adding/extinguishing a square and having the people move would really help solidify why things are happening. I agree that it's a shame it's so short, but I'm looking forward to trying out the post-compo levels!

I've been looking for decent puzzle games this whole jam so happy I stumbled across this. I think it is neat even though sometimes it starts to feel hard to calculate what will happen next in a lot of cases. Putting out fires for most of the levels seems really op right now though, and that makes the levels way easier, was able to blast through the second version with this strategy.

Nice little puzzle game. I appreciated the very simple controls (although would be nice to put them in the game itself too). Would've liked some more puzzles as I was quite enjoying it!
