Just a question, is the fact that there's no music in the web version intentional?
Anyways, great game!
I also found the challenge a little bit low. (Maybe it picks up more later)
Around the time i got to about 2.7m subscribers, the game suddenly dropped frames quite harshly. If the game was paused, framerate picked back up again. That was where I quit. (I saw the "windows version preferred" note after I played it in web)
Thanks!
- the post processing effect is very hard for the eyes, lens distorsion + chromatic aberration is a dangerous mix and I feel you went a bit far on the values. It's great you added an option to remove that, but if you did, that might mean you knew it was not visually comfortable ?
- controls and tutorial phase are very neat and it is the main reason I enjoyed the game. However, after 2-3 minutes of gameplay, I thought it was a bit boring just wandering, picking up things and going near the enemies with no other input that direction. If I need to attack someone, I want to do it myself, by spamming some button or at least keeping it pressed.
- the things I had to pick up (subs, money, etc.) were just lost in the middle of the incoming likes at some point, which did not help me knowing what I was doing. And that leads me to the next point : this is too easy and it doesn't require strategy to win. You just go near the enemies when they come, and then you run around and it works. I would have like a better difficulty curve, some levels maybe, it was too easy and linear
- audio is great!
Overall, great job on this entry ! It is polished and complete which is very nice
Game is fun and so engaging, but I guess a little bit more challenge is required.
All of your points are totally valid and also things that were still left on my todo list. So the blame here is on the time limit and my bad time management maybe :see_no_evil:
I will of course return the favor and give you an proper feedback for your game too. I'm just very busy because the next game jam is coming up. Don't worry, I will not forget it
You're welcome for the feedback, time management is hard and we all have things that we could have done with more time, but that's the spirit of the event :p I'll be happy to play your game again if you work on an improved version!
I don't know if you will ever play an improved version. I have many other game ideas going which I think have more potential than this game. But if there is an improved version, I will inform you, but you can also follow me on twitter if you want. Info on my ludum dare page.
But seriously, really well done. Extremely polished game!
A really well put together game jam, great job!
I will of course also checkout your game as soon as I have time. I already checked the website and it's crazy how many people you worked with on the game.
I don't know how, but the son of our musician was able to achieve negative numbers. Don't ask me how, but so much to not being able to loose :see_no_evil:
I eventually got to the end, it took quite long but the gameplay was addictive enough for me to continue. But I must say, that the difficulty curve was almost non existent, if there was any at all. The enemies spawned very sparsely, and there was never a real challenge. If you are going to expand on this project, that would be the main thing to improve on. Tho I have noticed, that somehow easy games do feel *really* addictive to play, especially juicy ones like this^
The humour of this game tho, was spot on! It described the current situation of YouTube quite accurately... The enemy themes were really clever, with demonetisations, copyright strikes and such. Also, the concept of defending you videos from them to earn subs, views and money fit the theme really well! The stats system was well made too, and it was visually pleasing to watch the views, ad money, subs etc. flow to and from the videos, and surprisingly with very little lag! (did you make use of the Unity's new DOTS / ECS features or were those all just basic GameObjects?). Overall, I don't think I even encountered any bugs (or at least didn't notice any) which was nice!
Overall, a superb game, from the idea to the execution. Amazing job fellows, keep it up!
The game was made with the traditional Unity approach of GameObjects. If you have a PC without graphic card or an older one, it could happen that you get some lag, but I turned the amount of bubbles down quite a bit so that the game would run as smooth as possible. I was thinking to go DOTS but I was already to far into the project and due to me having no experience, I did not want to risk the completion of the game and I kept the GameObject approach. However, I will soon take a look into DOTS because more bubbles would make the game more awesome.
You are also correct with the shader, but shader sounds more fancy :sunglasses:
I will checkout your game before the deadline for sure. Have quite some games to play, but time is sparse.
Add game mechanics and increase the difficulty, the game is actually too easy. Also improve the audio design to create a better look and feel.
Overall, very polish game
Some kind of strategic element would be great, to give the game a bit more depth.
Congrats on your game!
