Adventure Time by mennchen22

[raw]
made by mennchen22 for LD36 (JAM)
Hey,

our second LudumDare ends with a little adventure game.
We got a good programming time but less people.
We could have used an artist and some Questwriter, too.

But overall we got a way better game than LD35 (http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-35/?action=preview&uid=91426).

Check the AntiVir programm, if u got issues with starting the game.

Edit: If the game doesn't start after you clicked the .exe you're probably
missing the openAl driver. You can get it by following this link:

Hi, nice game and congratulations ! We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description.

The treasure is mine?
hahaha nice game, music and the little quest xd is very fun. What I liked most was the music that changes at every level.

The sewer music was great!

I didn't quite understand the purpose of these green slimes, but I just ran up to the top - there was some text popping up, but the next level was loaded instantly, before it could display.

The graphics were cool, just the player model didn't really fit the pixel art style (I think)

Weird ending, but the game was fun, actually.

With a bit smoother movement along the tiles, it would have been even better :)

Good job!

@All Thank you guys for taking time to play our game.

We are no artist and time for even more/better music was not there, because we had to figure out a "story". (Next time this part gets more time)

I think the game need some improves, our interest is that you could see the potential.

Thanks for this nice comments!!!

This looks good but I don't want to install a program in order to play a game for a few minutes or hours. If you can do a build that is a standalone .exe I'll give it a try. Screen shots look great!

The version in dropbox is standalone!! :) The only thing you might have to install is openAl. It would be nice if you'd check it out. And it won't take a few hours to complete the game, I promise :P

I got to the skeleton note and then went behind the house and found the entrance, but the entrance didn't do anything. Is that the end of the game?

Minor note on distributing: You don't need the following files: ld36.application, ld36.exe.manifest, ld36.pdb, ld36.vshost.application, ld36.vshost.exe, ld36.vshost.exe.manifest. These files are used to build or debug the program and don't need to be distributed to users (although distributing the PDB file gives you better stack traces if your program crashes).

Nice entry, cheers!

Cute little game! Graphics and music were nice, but there were some problems in situations like when I was below a tree, and the collision detection wasn't really smooth, but details...

/************ SPOILER ALERT **********************/
I was a bit lost when I went to the skeleton, since there was just a placeholder image there xp. Is there a way to fight against the slimes? I got a thing and instantly died when one slime ran into me.
I tried again and dodged the slimes and went to the top of the pyramid but opened a majestic volcano! Is there another ending? =O

Nice job!

@Dietrich Epp Thx for the comment and information! The entrance behind the house isn't the end ... But i can understand that it is to small and only in right positioning you could walk through.

@nihilaleph The skeleton graphics got lost in our building stage... Collision detect, we worked on it and improved it much to the LD35 game we made (still beginners but try hard). Story got lost as well, no time and less coffee so we could only figure out a "sample" story.

Thx for all comments! On LD37 there will be an awesome game with : Collision detection like real-life, graphics that let your graphics card burn, 5 star music and the best story only for you guys AND its free :D hope you enjoy!

Looks nice a nice game, sadly the game didn't start at all when I ran the exe file.

Pretty good. I noticed that the collision detection when walking around on the map would sometimes cause me to get stuck on things where it didn't seem like I should get stuck. I thought the walking speed was just a little bit slow -- would have appreciated a run button.

Nice game, got into sewer, but slimes got me. I would maybe play if there was save point implemented.

[spoiler alert] Hmm, I died because of the green slimes and now I don't know what to do. Each time I go back into the underworld, the slimes are still there. How do I get the treasure? Or did I already take it? I also wished that I could respawn in the underworld if I die there.

Overall, a nice looking game. The sprite sets of the overworld and the underworld don't quite fit together though, and the art style of the character/slimes is different, too. The character has a bit weird sprite when seen from the front: from the sides he looks happy, from the front he looks angry/sad.

The music is quite good, is it procedurally generated? However, the underword music continued once I died, even though I was back on the overworld.

When I start the game I get the German message "Eine Reise beginnt". Is that because my computer is set to German or did you forget to translate that? :D

@jsmars Look in the description, pls try to install the OpenAL lib.

@csanyk Thx, good idea. We didn't test the speed and collision detection was made by hand. We wanna look for some professional collision detection.

@Knowledge Thank you for playing it, we know the slime count is to high. ^^ Only Try Hard will get through :/ . Save points will be an option if there is more story line.

@ZYXer Thank you for the detailed post. The respawn after dead was in the over world, because we want to stretch the game-play time... I forgot to switch the music back after dead, and the slime count is too high °^°. First, we are beginners , no artists, (music is made with cubase, selfmade ^_^ ). The start screen got German text inside, because first i started with a German storyine and translate it later, mistakes are made.

Your comments help us a lot with programming and thinking about future projects, thank you guys/ladies. Have a nice Day.
