You can shoot! by adjo

[raw]
made by adjo for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

I built a side-scrolling shooter where each level must be completed before the timer runs out. My first Ludum Dare in three years!

I ran out of time and wasn't able to tie my idea with the theme properly due to that and there's only a few levels.

Built with Lua and LÖVE.

Controls: - Arrows to move - Space to jump - Z to shoot

I get this on OSX: "“YouCanShoot” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified.".
I changed the security settings, but still, I get this :(

As a fellow LÖVE user I must write a comment:
I know how hard it is to write a side-scrolling platformer game from scratch in 48 hours. Great efford!
The jumping is still a bit floaty and it was hard for me get up the ledges sometimes. I had to slam myself into the wall and press jump to get up.
Nice entry and good work.
Keep it up!

Nice work! If I had to change one thing I would probably make the player controls a little less floaty.

@headchant & @wekaj, thanks both for the feedback! And completely agree that the controls could do with a bit of work!

@mudlee, ah that's a shame, thanks for letting me know. I don't know enough about the OSX settings to suggest how to fix it :(

Had fun with this one! Controls were a bit fiddly but that made it more intresting for the part of me which loves speed running.

A bit floaty, seemed to have a wall jump mechanic to get up some of the taller ramps but these were a bit inconsistent. The legs stopped moving every now and then. Did like the bullet physics, don't always see that! Managed to shoot a baddy from up on a cliff, which was satisfying.

@mudlee, Linux builds are unfortunately quite unreliable with the engine I used, even though I built it using Linux!

I like the game, but it is very short, and you can completely ignore the enemies, but the graphics and sounds are good.

Nice graphics and mood! Jumping is very hard and sluggish though. I would also suggest making the enemies fire more regulary (and not directly when they see you), that in combination with the sluggish jumps made it very hard to avoid getting hit.

I like this! I like the idea that you can't kill everything in the level and if you try, time will run out. I could see it becoming a more skill based type game where you use your momentum and items to avoid traps. Allows for the player to plan their attack out. Lots of potential!

I really really like the graphics of the game, especially the background, big thumbs up on that part :3c. The game play is efficient, works well (even if my I feel like sometimes my characters was walking on soaps x3).
The "problem" is that I don't really see how the game is related to the theme, but that's a minor issue, really. Nice job mate :3

The graphics and sfx are good. The only problem with the game is that the jump physics are a bit unreliable. Othert than that though I liked it, a lot.

As others mentioned, controls could be slightly more precise, but good job nonetheless!
