Backstory:

You are a benevolent mystical being who happened upon this quaint village. The people here are rather simple. They have 4 basic needs: food, water, sleep, and fun. Unfortunately, this village they have decided to occupy is subject to many hazards. Now, these are simple people, they have no knowledge of medicine or tools. They are only capable of satisfying their needs with some conveniently placed structures. Luckily for them, you appeared out of nowhere and decided to help them. Each of the necessary structures can become a hazard over time. The food pit can catch fire, hurting the people while they eat. The water can become poisoned, which will eventually kill them if left untreated. The hut for sleeping can be plagued with mosquitoes carrying malaria, which is also deadly. And the fun playground equipment can break, causing injuries bad enough to prevent walking. If they cannot fulfill their basic needs, their health bar will decrease. There are other hazards as well: bears, sinkholes, and banana peels. As more villagers appear in your village, you will think up new tools to help these people survive. However, more hazards will also appear. You will need all your wits about you to keep this village alive. But, if you can get a bunch of villagers to worship you, maybe it will all be worth it…

Controls:

use number or left-click to select. Left-click to place. Spacebar will put the item back.

  1. fence – villagers have to walk around it. Right click to rotate
  2. bucket – puts out fire
  3. shovel – removes banana peels and fills holes (any villager stuck in the hole will be buried)
  4. medicine – cures villager of water poisoning and malaria
  5. cast – heals villager from broken bones so they can walk again
  6. potion – purifies drinking water and wards off malaria mosquitoes (for structures only)
  7. hammer – fixes broken playground equipment (hold down to use, not click)
  8. ladder – allows villagers to climb out of holes
  9. trap – kills bears (also hurts villagers if they step on it first). Takes a few seconds to set up
  10. idol – magically draws villagers to worship as long as their basic needs are not in danger

Notes:

  • This game was too much for our first time and some aspects are incomplete. Sounds are one of those, but music is present :) (note: due to a bug, each playthrough has a chance of playing a different music soundtrack in-game, rather than cycling like a playlist)
  • Hardcore mode and Normal are the same
  • Only one award, many are listed though, let me know in the comments if you finish them all
  • Playtesting showed that it takes time to master and gets hectic quick, be on your guard!

-All Assets and Engine/game were made this weekend+monday.

-The Music: Mr. Virus has been carrying around for a bit (his own stuff)

-Font is Google Font Anton

-Background is 0AD desert texture

--Yes the Screensaver.exe is an early build;)

There is a victory condition, for those of you who get good enough to win, actually quite satisfying :)

The bugfixed version:

  • Ladders now only fill the hole you click on rather than all available holes
  • Music playlist is working properly!
  • These changes are still Jam eligible, I may do a Post Jam version with more polish

Impressive amount of variety! Pretty tough to keep those villagers alive though, I think we maxed out at around 19. They kept jumping in holes and going to get food when it was on fire  Sometimes we'd dig up a hole, and it felt like disturbing some sort of party

Good work!

My way to describe it is that it feels rich - I liked it! Btw, you said: _This game was too much for our first time and some aspects are incomplete_ - welcome to game jams! :v:

Wow, even if it's not completed, you can feel how massive could be with more time to develop it. The difficult is pretty up, but I love this kind of games so I can't say I didn't enjoy it! Welcome to gamejams, expectation vs reality in the scope is REALLY a thing for everyone hahaha. Hope we see you in the next jams!

I see you had a lot of ideas in mind and the time was too little for all of them! DEspite that it was a great experience and I am sure you will work on the game even after the jam! Well done

Very nice spin on the RTS genre (at least I interpret it as RTS-y, kind of). Really hope to see more of this!
