A story in the desert by Brain in a Bowl

[raw]
made by Brain in a Bowl for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

desert-screen-2.gif

My submission, or at least what I managed to finish.

Stuff I meant to implement but didn't get around to:

  • Metroidvania-style level progression to find new sources of water
  • A recurring antagonistic wolf
  • Combat and chase mechanics

Might still be added later, depending on feedback and interest.

Nice looking game! I like the music, graphics and the idea. Controls were confusing at the beginning, maybe it would be good to mention them on the game page.
Cool submission!

Nice animations and effects. I wish there were more to do than run back and forth. Promising concept though - it'd be nice to see what would have been given more time, but such is the way of LD.

I like the art style and how the music supports the "desert mood".

Awesome experience, those are some next level 2D wind effects you implemented there, very impressive! I agree on the fact that the controls could have been beter explained in the beginning, lucky they are pretty simple. Keep up the good work, would definitely love to see more of this!

Really liked the visuals, that cape. I would love to play the entire thing you had planned if you ever get to it!

I liked the style that you went with, the metroid look is very appealing to me. The controls where smooth and once i figured out i was suppose to fill up the bucket and water the tree i was like oh ok. I do wish you had more time to implement some more mechanics but this was good!! Congrats on submitting your game.

This game really has that "wow, what will happen now" feeling, and combined with nice graphics makes and interesting experience. Too bad it lasted only a minute. Maybe if you added some sfx for taking and watering the overall feeling would be that much better. Nice job though.

The game felt really simple but looked very good. It would have been better if it was more complicated.

Really nice graphics and animations. Actually I got nothing more to say ( for running back and forth )... :pensive:

Visually impressive. Great foundation for something bigger. Especially loved the dust and the animations! Look forward to more in the future!

A great start! I would be interested in seeing the things you didn't have time to do.

This game looks absolutely beautiful. It plays smoothly, and was a great experience. It'd be really cool to see those features you wanted to implement!

i think the game would benefit if you focused more on the gameplay aspect rather than visuals during the jam. also, people talked about the sound being really good but for some reason i didn't hear anything while playing. as in, the sounds/music/whatever is in the game didn't play for me
