Luna The Woodcutter by Floxnu

[raw]
made by Floxnu for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Our first Ludum Dare event! Made during a fun lazy weekend.

Luna explores the wilderness in an effort to keep the fire alive.

Find tools to help you collect resources; find grass, twigs and logs to kindle the fire in order to keep it alive for as long as you can.

Everything burns away in the end, and even the fire will fade.

ChangeLog - Thanks for the feedback! We've removed the debug command granting Logs and made it (hopefully) impossible now to leave the map.

I like the game but I got all 3 pieces of equipment and then I'm kinda stuck on what to do next? Is there a scoring/timer system to record a person best? Is there somewhere else I need to go? Am I missing something?

The game is very creative and the graphics are nice though.

It was a lot of fun good music! It was really cool to have the three different tool types instead of one and how each one had a purpose.

Good music and visuals. It might just be me, but I think the play and cancel buttons being wooden threw me off (took me a while to get from the start screen lol). That said, I see a lot of potential in this game. Well done!

It's a nice environment, with relaxing music. In one of my later plays, I hit a bug: after exiting to the main menu accidentally and then starting a new game, the camera got stuck. I think I also found a debug cheat to get a bunch of wood on the 1 key. In some ways this reminds me of Minit. You have a clock that limits your exploration and you have to always be stoking the fire and getting a little bit further each time. Nice job!

Hey! I love the vibe of the graphics and the music. The game itself was a bit glitchy unfortunately, I'm guessing it's procgen foliage, and since they can spawn on the edges of the screen, as I tried to go to the next screen I would get stuck in a loop transitioning back and forth between screens.
We actually had the same interpretation of the theme by the way, we made a fire feeding game too! haha A completely different style of game although.

Interesting idea!
I liked how you balanced both exploration and resource management.
I realized you could get free Logs by pressing "1", did you forget to delete that from your code?
I also managed to get off the game map with the pickaxe!!![1.png](///raw/b63/e2/z/31071.png)

That was neat! I was a bit puzzled when trying to get to the second chest, that can be seen when starting/ending the game for a bit since I was lacking the pick axe and had no idea where to get it, but going onto "expeditions" in the different directions, trying to find it was really fun!
I think there could be some sort of goal (if there is I missed it) once you get the axe though, because at that point where you just unlocked 2/3 resources the difficulty curve really tapers off. But getting there also felt quite rewarding, which is always good =)

Very nice. It can feel a bit like progress is made by accident so maybe a kind of breadcrumb trail would help guide the player - e.g. early in the game nudge them towards seeing the chest that is enclosed by rocks so that when they get the pickaxe they can for a meaningful plan rather than just eventually bump into it. Just my two cents. The mood was nice, neat graphics and calming music. Nice job :)

Very nice game !
The game loop is simple but keep you playing for a while, and getting all three tools feel good. But there is a lack of objective after finding the fird tool, you just chop down tree, grass and put them in the fire and that's it.

Nice Job !

Really well made character and world. Took me a retry to get a hang of it because I got lost and ran out of time. Some indicator of the direction of the fire might have been nice. It was also a bit strange that it was hardest in the beginning and then after unlocking all tools there wasn't much challenge left. I'm not sure if I was supposed to explore further to find some final resource though, but since the world stretched out equally in all directions it kind of made that question too general for me. If there had been a clear direction and some indicator that there was an incentive to push on in a certain direction, I would probably have tried some longer.

Nice game though!
