Redshift-Recursion by diinki

[raw]
made by diinki for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Redshift Recursion is a parkour/FPS/Story driven game that hopefully can bring you a well needed dose of adrenaline! The story of this build well emulates the uncertainty of the development of the game itself, and the FPS addition to the parkour adds another dimension of stress to this retro-aesthetic kind of game.

The original idea was simply called Redshift, and I intend to finish that original idea one day. But this version I decided to name Redshift recursion, for ummm, reasons... Pic1.png Backstory: I essentially gave up due to choosing a waaay too unrealistic project, and got lost into lots of different things. And then I decided: "I feel so bad giving up, I'll just go all in, I'll do this and that to make it at least playable, and publish it regardless!" So I recycled my mechanics into what this build of the game is! And I did that with 10 hours left, so I expect there to be lots of bugs, and also lots of polishing that needs to be done. But with only 10 hours of time, I can't be that disappointed at myself.

I will probably polish this further and work on it more, and also expand on it a little, and once I've done all that I might as well release the "finished" version, I'll probably release that on the website I have.

Thanks! :>

Update 1: Since I will polish the game further I will have two available builds: The first build/version, and the build that will get continuous updates. Both of which will be on my website! https://kayowo.net The game on itch.io will only be the updated one.

Update 2: Released V0.02: UI improvement, Overall polishing. Read patch notes on itch for more information. edit: V0.021, fixed game breaking bug, oopz

Update 3: Changed from .rar to .zip Will take all feedback into account of how I could've made things better! This will be the last update for this version of the game, thanks for playing! <3

The glowing effect and overall aesthetic was nice! The dialogue system was well developed too! I found the wall grab to be a little confusing to use but other than that overall quite solid game :)

Maybe because I've always made my movement controllers physic driven, this one really bugs me. But overall it's a really great game

I really like the color scheme and character art, the writing is well done and progression through the tutorial was pretty spot on as it gave me just enough story and information to want to continue while allowing me the chance to play and fail on my own to gain confidence to learn. After the tutorial, yea. 10 hours mate I get ya. But would love to see where you go from here.

Running past lasers and doing parkour is pretty awesome. If there were a full game made out of this I would buy it.

Nice use of shader graphs! Loved the aesthetics of the game. Also, I was able to keep the weapon I equipped even after I died. Not sure if it's intended behaviour or a bug, thought I'd let you know.

The game crashed at the conclusion of the first level 2 times. I could hear the Erik Satie Music in the bg, but the game just froze and stopped going. The first level was also a bit off because the momentum was stopped immediately, however I did like the atmosphere, and the look.

For the future. Dont use rar to package your gamefiles. Not everyone has winrar.

I'm a neon fan myself so i enjoyed it very much however the game crashed at the end of the first level.

I wish I could skip the tutorial and I find it funny that after death you keep your weapons. I got 3 guns by dying at the very beginning. :D I like how the game looks though

I liked the aesthetics of your game, reminds me a lot of deadcore, jumping on platforms and shooting targets :)
I liked the design, the contextual menu and how you made it, feels like a real little game!
For feedback I would say that it would have been nice to make the text go faster, to avoid maybe on retry a red flashy screen cause it was intense, and add grace periods to the edge of platforms. Because I somehow get always stuck if my jump wasn't that long.
Other than that I liked the pixel art in a sci-fi set up, maybe it was a bit too dark on the contour but it was nice!
Good job!

While I feel like the player movement mechanics could use some work I really enjoyed what I was given with, the visuals look really nice and I'd definitely like to see more from the developer

I really liked the visuals, but I found the interaction quite awkward unfortunately. Even the tutorial level took me about 10 runs before I made it though, and the first real level was a no-go. A big annoyance was that I would try to jump up stairs and miss, only to get "stuck" to the side of the stair in front of me.

I usually like first person platforming, and this is well done as to how the movement feels, but you need to try to cut the player some slack, like push him onto a platform that he only just reached. I like the artstyle you went with and even the mixing of 2D characters in a 3D world works well. I can see this being a really cool game with a bit of polish. Nicely done!

nice idea, but jump is really bad. Try to improve character micro controll, and add wall-jump. In my opinion it's a good idea. Good job btw!

Nice game. Like the graphics and dialogs. Controls are smooth. But jump is difficult to manage.Fun to play...
