Trollwoods by zondarg

Want to go camping in the wild? Keep your campfire alive, because it is dark outside, and you are not quite alone in the forest..
Use arrow keys to move, SPACE to switch your torch light.
A tiny evasion and resource management game with pixel art optics. Everything created, drawn, sampled, written during these 48hours using the great Godot engine, Pyxel Edit, Audacity, OpenMPT, Gimp and BFXR and my Keyboard.
A Ludum Dare 46 compo entry. / Made from scratch in 48h.

@drschizzo Yes, good idea, I wanted to add a "sweep" of the lamplight when turning, but then time was up and the feature was dropped..
@xpost2000 The wood is measured and just enough to make it through the night. (tested it)
(All in all - the goal is to survive the night and keep the fire burning all the time so you are not met by the trolls at the fireplace. And there is only a limited amount of wood, so it is important to find it all and throw it in the fire when needed..)
Seems like a lot of effort to get this done in 48h, great job!
But the gameplay itself is a bit boring. After a while it's hard to see anything in the dark, sometimes it feels like luck: whether a yeti will walk at me from the sides while walking downwards.
They could also be a bit more interactive. If I know their path I can just walk past by them, they won't bother me.
Anyway, solid entry!
Only thing i found to be a possible problem was that the player walked under the radio:

But it didnt affect the fun gameplay :)
All that said, the aesthetics of this game shine. Nice job.

The game is cute and the music is pleasant, so much so that I could not bother trying to run away from the bears lol, was having a very good time with my family by the fire
Was pretty much chilling out at the campfire afterwards.
Perhaps, the trolls could actually notice you and try chasing you when you're close enough?
Nice music and mood :)
- Love the music - it's great
- Love the pixel art! It's so good!
- Love the way you fade the music in and out as I get closer to the middle, as thought he music is coming from the music box by the fire
- Really dig the way the light comes out from both the campfire and your flashlight to illuminate the environment
So many great little elements.
If I could call out an area for improvement - I would have liked the core gameplay to be a bit more engaging. It was fine for the first few minutes but going back and forth got a bit tedious - though at least I had that rockin' sound track to bop my head to!
Great entry!
I don't have much to criticize, this is probably a perfectly scoped project for compo, where there are a few ideas that would have been really nice to have if only you had a couple extra hours, but all the important stuff made it in so that ppl can have a quality experience and you don't have to opt out of any scoring categories.
@itsarjunsinh I think I like the label "happy horror game"
@tatetate Its more the fire than purely the light that scares them, I suppose. And yes, there are slight pauses in the gameplay currently, this could be balanced better.
@cheesepencil Right, no trolls, no mosquitos. But here, someone has to fetch the wood.
@firellon @dave-follett Yes, that could be nice, that the trolls do notice you if very near.
@quinn-patrick True, it doesnt get completely dark, this could be changed - wanted to do something with clouds and moonlight too, and that the trolls could pause and disguise as rocks. But time was up.
