We had a blast with LD47! Stop by and discover our game and its unique monsters! Designed with love and put together with determination.

Description

Bype is a top-down shooter where you are... well... stuck in a loop! You steer a mechanical tower riding on a circular track and have to defend yourself against hordes of enemies. You also have a big grabbing-arm with which you can block projectiles and pick up enemies. As you defeat more waves you get up to three new weapons.

Enemies

There are four enemies you will encounter:

Acydr

side_1.gif Moves towards the player until in sufficient range and proceeds to charge a projectile to shoot the player with.

Acydr is a sensitive boi. He doesn't like being around people and prefers a muddy swamp bath in his natural home: the primeval moors.

Voxyl

side_2.gif Moves towards the player and explodes.

The Voxyl species have met a terrible fate for centuries. A genetic mutation transformed the once free-spirited starfish into merciless explosives. Their grief afflicts those who feel safe. May you withdraw from their hugs.

Niflatur

hexsideanim.gif Continuously spawns his minions to attack the player.

Who are the Niflature? What is a niflatur? Nobody knows! Rumor has it that it crawled out of a dark crevice and created the infamous Nifala Castle there. The rule of the Niflature is unchallenged and their territory is surrounded by an impenetrable mist. A real mystery!

Nifla

crabwalk.gif Niflaturs minions that walk towards the player and attack on contact.

The henchmen of the Niflature are just as incomprehensible as their creators. These restless creatures do not make a halt until they have fulfilled the most secret desires of their creators.

Controls

A, D - Move around the track

Mouse - Steer the grabbing-arm

Hold LMB - Grab with the grabbing arm

Original concept :) Would be awesome if we could use that grip to throw enemies in obstacles or this kind of thing

Fits the theme well! I wish there was a way to pivot the character.

Very interesting concept. The base shooting mechanics where too simple to be engaging but the arm was satisfying to use and there is a lot of potential.

I think this would be great as a tower defense game. You put up towers before each wave and you use the massive claw to actively help your towers take down enemies. Different towers utilize the claw differently, like one could be a meat grinder that has you sticking enemies inside, or a tower that shoots fire and can heat up the claw which burns enemies you grab.

The artwork is amazing and concept is really cool in the beginning. After the first upgrade it turns out the game becomes trivial since you can just keep going in one direction and ignore anything but the Niflatur. Further upgrades are enough that this is true for at least up to lvl 26. The game would have been awesome if enemies were able to counteract continous movement, forcing you to dodge or maybe block projectiles with the enemies grabbed.
Really cool game with potential! =)

I really like the mechanic. Graphics are great. Main criticism is that the start is a little slow. Also, it might be interesting if you had to move the cannon position with the claw.

Nice Work!

Very interesting mechanics, good job guys ! Actually I only stayed push on "D", and it was just easy to kill the ennemies, so I finally leave. But the point is that there are differents ennemies, weapon upgrade, it's very cool ! It would be better if you could move the cannon, or maybe build in the game area. Whatever, something that would give more difficulty by "breaking" the core loop with an other one.
Well done !

I really enjoyed this game. I'm not really clear on how to get upgrades but it was fun none the less.

I love the graphics and the concept is super creative with the grabbing-arm. I feel like the shooting itself could use some work as it's a little finicky rotating on such a large circle, but otherwise it was very satisfying to play.

Amazing graphics and artwork. Really loved it, from the style to the colors palette.

The gameplay is cool with this metal arm thing and the limitation of being stuck in the tracks. A literal and valid theme usage.

Movement and controls are smooth and the whole game looks "finished".

Music is well made but I think the style is a little out of place here. A deeper, more synth/sci-fi oriented track would do wonders on the mood (already set by your awesome pixel art) - this is a personal taste however so take with a grain of salt.

Nice enemy variations and different strategies, even with some lore of their own. In case you guys plan to go for a full project with this, I guess it would be cool to give more strategic value in the metal arms actions.

Overall this game is receiving much less attention that it would deserve.

Very well done.

(Quick tip for the next: Maybe people are blocked/having resistance by having to download a java bin. With the knowledge show here, Unity would be a breeze)

What a unique shooter! Fits the theme very well!

If you incorporate the use of the grabber mechanic more, it will make this game even better. Like allowing the player to grab Acydr's projectiles and throw it back at them, or grab Voxyl that about to explode and put it into a group of Niflas to quickly clean it up.

Nevertheless - good job!

That's the weirdest take on tower defense I've seen. I approve!
I enjoyed your aesthetic. But I think that the gripping mechanic needs to be nerfed a little, it feels a bit too effective.
