Fire Keeper by mechanicallife
This is a small platformer about a fire keeper who need to keep all the way stations on a dangerous trail lit. To carry out their mission they need to protect a lit oil lamp and bring it to each station before it burns out.
Controls are: * "WASD" or "Left stick" to move. * "Arrow keys" or "Right stick" to move shield. * "Space" or "Bumpers" to Jump. * You can restart a level by pressing "Start" or "Escape". * To Grind on your shield you need to keep the shield pointed towards the wall you're grinding on.
We made all assets, sound, music and code. The game was made in Unity. Enjoy  https://youtu.be/hJ8D8j8yqtk

I think there should be a way to end the round early tho as a lot of times I knew i didn't have enough health to win and just had to run into a wall until I died.
Also having the levels timed while also teaching the player several new mechanics feels pretty punishing, could use a little more difficulty balance!
There is a way to restart a level early, we just forgot to tell the player about it :/
If you press "esc" or "start"(on a xbox controller) there is a pause menu with a restart level option.
Yeah I think I am the only one on the team that playes with keyboard.
One of our artists, mechanicallife, recorded a trailer for the game in which he played some of the levels.
It is uploaded now :)
It's easy to get started and I love how the shield mechanic can be used in many ways.
The controls with the gamepad were good, especially when using the shield with the right stick ! However, for the Jump, I would prefer instead the "A" button, I think that it is more intuitive.
Very nice work, nothing to say more !
Also I was a bit confused about the appearance of what looked like ramps (not the red one) in the background, but no matter what I did I could never actually get on them? So overall a bit of a learning curve. Some of the tutorial text isn't really visible when you need it to be on the first play through. Fairly sure there was something beyond a waterfall at one point, but I was so busy trying to stay alive I never had time to read it. Could use some tweaking here and there, but the art was great, and the core gameplay has a lot of potential. Pretty impressive that it ran as smoothly as it did considering the time in which it was made, so well done!
On a lighter note, this is one of my favourite games this jam!
