Flat Frat by Prism

[raw]
made by Prism for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

This is Flat Frat. The goal is to keep the party alive, and you best believe that YOU are responsible for it. You have the manage all the necessities of a party by supplying food, drinks, fixing the broken appliances, and making sure the cops don't show up. You have limited time to get everything done, and the difficulty keeps getting harder as the game goes along. Good luck, its time to party hardy.

The game was uploaded to itch.io under DuckStackStudios, our Ludum dare name of Prism should be changed to DuckStackStudios by next event. This was our first game jam and was made by two people, MrManGuy -Coding/Audio, UltraCowMan -Graphics/Audio. We really hope you enjoy our game, and we will hopefully compete again next jam!

-Many thanks DuckStack

Cool game, would look better with some walk animations and also it's quite difficult, soundtrack and game mechanics very cool though

Nice way of implementing the keep it alive theme! i liked the music, a walk animation would've been nice, but aside from that, everything's great!

At the start I was thinking "Just click on stuff? pretty easy" but by the end it was super hectic and I couldn't get anyone to shut up. Pretty fun. Would love to see the gameplay more fleshed out (maybe hit a specific button to do the task, etc.)

Cool game, like the art - would like animations but it is LD.

Fun enough but maybe should have gone with levels instead of endless, that way things change more :).

Also soundtrack was a bit repetitive but didn't hinder my enjoyment too much. I liked the scrolling event system.

Nice job!

At first I thought "keep the party alive" was a weird way to be in the theme, but after playing I better understand !
The tasks are funny, yet a bit repetitive. Maybe you could have added new tasks after a certain number of hours. The combo keyboard + mouse is a bit unintuitive, <space> for action would have been nice.
The todolist at the left is great to optimise interventions.
This is some nice work for a first jam, yet I would I loved to see the cops at the end !

I really love this game. It really is a unique concept. However, the first time i played it, the player went partially off screen at the bottom and got stuck but its didnt happen when I played it again.

Pretty funny game. Maybe you mention somewhere that the player has to clicking on the vibrating items. I also didn't fully understand why vibrating items sometimes stopped vibrating even though I hadn't clicked on them yet. I lasted 10 hours, towards the end it did get pretty wild.

Great concept but I think that there is a little bit too much going on for it to really work overall. It feels grating when several of the sounds are playing at once and is quite annoying.

Thank you all for all your feedback! Animation is a skill we are still trying our best to learn and we hope to have it down by the next jam (@llewellyn-and-michael, @zonvoi, @jetthesimon). As far as the game went, after reflecting on your inputs allowing the user to simply press space when close enough to an object would be much more functional (@defectivemelon, @qux, @mika-la-grand). Currently, the game has items that seemingly fix themselves which I agree doesn't make sense, I believe our original intention was if you don't complete the task the guest gets upset, fixes it, then leaves the party. This was never clearly stated, and wasn't a very intuitive mechanic, in our next game we will try to have more comfortable mechanics (@defectivemelon, @qux, @mika-la-grand). When it comes to the sound, we all agree that it does get annoying pretty quickly. I think we could have used a audio indicator, where the sound just plays once almost like an alert. Our original goal was to have several music tracks but by the end of the jam we just couldn't get the music to sound right (@jetthesimon, @camden-obertop). We had hoped to get the cops finished before the jam was done, but once again our lack of animation knowledge left what we had looking very sloppy (@qux). Which made us scrap that and make it our goal to really learn animation.

You guys have given us plenty to work on, and plenty of things we did well. We appreciate that and look forward to putting our skills together again in October!

Thank you all for playing our game
