Empire Tactics by PoshDan

[raw]
made by PoshDan for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Rally the forces of (RED) empire to crush the evil (BLUE) empire!

Game is a turn based strategy board game on a hex based grid, it features 5 missions that take only a couple minutes to play. You can toggle AI for both players with the F1/2 keys for a bit novelty, though the missions are designed to be challenging for the red player primarily.

EDIT:

Important! Some quick notes about the units:

There are 4 types, ranging from smallest to largest: (we didn't have the time to add this information to the interface)

-Swarm (speed 4, attack 1, range 1, shield 4) Fast

-Fighter (speed 2, attack 3, range 2, shield 7) Well-rounded

-Beast (speed 3, attack 4, range 3, shields 2) Fragile but devastating

-Tank (speed 1, attack 1, range 1, shields 10) Built to soak up damage

Their stats are multiplied by the amount of units in a stack, similar to heroes of might and magic (or king's bounty originally). No magic here though. Attack reduces shields 1 to 1, the current value isn't displayed, sorry.

The order in which units move depend on their move stat also.

I'm a sucker for turn-based tactics games. Pretty fun, well done!

Pretty nice to play, though it would be great if the ship types were more clearly presented. I'm still not entirely sure what each ship is good and bad for. MIssion 4 is a bitch :D

Good stuff. The ships were a bit small for my eyes and I wasn't sure what their different strengths weaknesses were. Music was suitable space opera-ish. GOod work!

Idea is great. I couldn't properly understand the game. Is there a tutorial on how the ships work? Maybe to foresee their weakness? The UI could use a little more love.

Really liked this. Could really do with some health bars and maybe bigger ships. great work.

PS Using the ESC key drops out of fullscreen mode so maybe you could use a different key to return to the main menu.

I enjoyed it, but I found it a bit too difficult, but besides that, my only issue is not being able to tell what type each ship is.

Cool game. The map feels too wide for the amount of spaceships we have. Otherwise, its a fun and easy to play game. Good job.

The swords ships are the best. Explosion sounds were loud compared to the rest of the sound levels.

Not really my kind of game. I was able to achieve victory in the first scenario but don't know exactly how. It is good that you provided information about the ships, i think it would add to strategy to a different player, but for me it doesn't really help unless i have the stats on the screen when i click them or something.

The SFX are a little too high in comparisson with the background track but the game functions respond just well. The graphics are neat as well. Congrats on your game!

I like the idea here a lot - I like the clean hexagonal style of the grid and the core mechanics are easy to pick up. I found it hard to make meaningful decisions without more information being presented to the player - the stats of a stack, in particular, would have been very nice to have at hand, as would the movement range of any ship you hovered your mouse over (especially *enemy* ships) and the order of movement. The balance also seemed off - the ship that threw swords seemed really really powerful in comparison to the others. I didn't manage to win Mission 4, but I got through the rest and enjoyed playing.

Very nice turn-based game, I got into the flow pretty fast, I think because of nice music and cool graphics. I didn't know what were the specs of the ships though. I mean, you could see that some ships are fast and weak, some slow and strong, but the lack of numbers made it hard to play tactically. Still a fun game, though!
