Rover Pilot by workshopcraft

Rover Pilot

Welcome to Rover Pilot. Your new job is to pilot a rover over the surface of mars, mapping it completely. Your number 1 goal during this mission? Keep it alive! Explore mars. There's not much here. There was talk of upgrades to your solar panels, batteries, engine and scanner but it looks like there were some cutbacks.

Controls are WAD.

Minimap shows you where you have already explored:

Have fun.

Interesting game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/eHokHalkfT0

Should have included some visual cues that the rover was driving.

Really loved the design of the rover, and the minimap was well implemented!

The idea sounds interesting, too bad you didn't get more done than that. I made it to the congrats screen! ;)

Can't vote most points fairly though.

I like the concept, and it's strangely relaxing, it would be cool if you kept working on it!

That idea needs more than 48 hours. But game is good enough

Quick reminder to get more players: Use a thumbnail for your game. Otherwise your game is presented with this grey box. Some great Games are not played because of a missing thumbnail ... You can still change it by editing your submission page :)

Thanks for the praise everyone and thank you Pilarius for pointing out the issue with my listing. Hopefully this entices more people to try it out :)

I don't have sound during the game whereas you pushed 4 wav files on your repository, didn't you use them?

Gotta say it is as you described it: there's not much here. If it weren't for the minimap I wouldn't even know I was moving, there is no visual cues to tell. The ideas do sound interesting, it is a shame none of those are in the game right now.

the 4 sound files I created for the game were ready to go but I never got the code added in time for the deadline. I had to prioritize fixing game breaking bugs over features during the last few hours. You are absolutely correct Devastus, I think if i'd entered the Jam rather than the Compo, the game would of been in a much better state. Here's to the next Ludum Dare!

The game is interesting, a little dull, but out of principle I am a fan. Great work!

Some texture for the mars surface would have been nice. I kept wondering what the controls are as I thought rover was not moving until I saw the minimap. I loved X and Y axis info and percentage showing completed. Spending more time on the game would have brought some awesome game.

I never thought i could complete a game by pushing two buttons, the mini map was cool though, i wish it would fill the tiny in-between spots where you haven't gone. also, there where no negative effects going on with the rover right?

I am overhauling the game to give better visual feedback for a non compo release after the judging is done. There was a long list of suggestions/improvements to work through but you can drive anywhere, the world wraps (as mars is a sphere). I am working on getting textures and biomes into the games roadmap as well as settings and maybe a quick tutorial to get you started.
