The Glowing Adventure by Clickbait

[raw]
made by Clickbait for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

A hand drawn 2D platformer. It is a relatively short experience, however the endless mode available after finishing the game compensates for this. Controls: Movement - Arrow keys/WASD ,
Jump - Space ,
Attack - Left mouse button or E . --> You won't be able to use the jump and attack abilities at the start of the game. You will unlock them a little later.
I worked individually on this game, so i just managed to finish it with few minutes to spare. Hope you like it! Available to play in the browser, however it is recommended to download for Windows as it contains high resolution graphics

Lovely graphics, glowy-wobble man is clearly one of the best main characters in any of the games I've played so far! The jump did feel a little floaty, but overall a fun little game. Good job

Simple but well thought game. It was clear all the time what I had to do. Graphics are lovely and mucic is really cool. I loved the mood of the game. And the music change to unlimited mode is really fun!

I liked the art style. Controls felt a little off and I wasn't able to attack at the end using the E key. Good work though.

I loved the smooth, bouncy animations.

I found the wand really difficult to use, I mean it was amusing to watch the character wave it around but it was to the detriment of gameplay.

The characters were cute and the artstyle was lovely.

@rebtf That wasn't a wand - it's a sword lol - but its only noticeable when its not moving.
Anyway, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the feedback!

Cool game! Nice art style and music choice. I seemed to run out of enemies to kill when I got 12/13. Would have been nice to hear more sound effects as well. Overall nice job!

Cute game and really nice graphics. The gameplay is a little bit tricky sometimes to hit the enemies (specially the big spiders). But overall a good game :) Kepp going.

@nikita-demidov Uh.. blue platform? I don't think there is any blue platform in the game.. Can you send a screenshot?
If you were playing it on the web, try reloading the tab or downloading the build for windows
If you downloaded the build for windows, maybe the file was not downloaded properly(due to internet or smthing), so try downloading it again or playing on the web.
Sry it didn't work, good look for your game!

I had some problems with identifying what can I walk on and what not, but overall really nice visuals. I also liked the soundtrack, altough it felt a bit out of place. A was a bit confused with where I should go, but it wasn't a big problem since the game was so small. Well done!

Nice game, i love the artstyle and music, it's remind me the firsts games of Edmund Mc Millen ahah I love the idea of this "Unlimited mode" at the end, it add a great replay value ! If i can make some advice : ° The range of our sword for damaging the ennemies are too short ! Also the attack animation is cool but it's deteriorated our capacity of killing the spiders faster ; ° It's probably a design choice but it would be nice if when we died, we may lost the features we previously add because actually we can use this for cheating ahah ; ° Make our character disapearing when he died, we can still move him when the hp are at 0. ; That's all for me, good luck for the future :)

@rensei I wanted the game to continuously move to the right, so when you were supposed to get the jump ability which was to your left, i put a sign board, to help. I guess i should have added more instructions, but i didn't wanted my game to be cluttered with text and information.
Thanks for the feedback!

@nikita-demidov I dont know whats wrong.. It works for me even on browser. Try a different browser or check if flash is enabled, maybe.
The blue platform is actually a health bar. It may look too big, but when you play in full screen it shrinks to a normal size.
Hope it works :X

Great artstyle. I did find it weird that you had to go left first and think the level design would have been more clear if you gained the power ups linearly and did the fighting like that too. It was a fun little game though, wish it was longer.

Worked well for me on web, great graphics/music. I liked the little left arrow at the beginning, like many old Mario levels where there was something hidden off to the left at the start of the level. Jumping a bit too floaty for my taste, but overall nice job!

It was short but I'm glad that it didn't totally reset when I died. One thing I noticed is that for the WebGL build, in Unlimited Mode you can't see the "score" unless you have it set to fullscreen (at least for me). Congrats on the submission!

I dug the cozy presentation and music. The trail effect on the weapon swinging was neat too. It's a bit hard to tell when you're going to get hit as the hit detection seems pretty generous for the enemies touching you.

Nice little game. It reminds me a bit of "Evoland" series at the beginning where you have to go and search for your controls.
The music is pretty relaxing and your art direction is great looking. Great job overall !

Love the graphics. Remind me a bit of Limbo.

I'm afraid the game is way too hard for me. I lost about half my health bar per big spider so it didn't seem like I would be able to get all 13.

I think maybe the attack should be more controllable. Only a small portion of the attack animation really has a chance to hit anything and you don't appear to have an ability to aim the attack. I think it would be more useful if you could click where you wanted to attack and your character would swing the sword there, and if the animation was only like 0.3 seconds (even if it had some cooldown).

I really enjoyed the art style and the music. The animations were fantastic too! Personally, I didn't enjoy the combat. I think it felt clunky because it was difficult to hit enemies without also taking damage. Maybe the hitboxes are too small? I'm not sure. This was very fun to play though. Great work! :)

I expected much more less from the first glance.I was positively surprised at what I got. The attack takes some time to get use to, but other then that you are good to go. Additional wave/horde mode was a nice touch. Also you have huge potential as an artist. Nice warm palette, good eye for the colors. Specially the second tree background shows huge potential, word of advice keep doing what you doing and you will improve a lot, I can feel it.

Nice entry @clickbait, i quite enjoyed the atmosphere with the nice music on the background with a unique art style. Only i struggled to get past the small spiders in the beginnig but it maybe hence I'm not too prominent in traditional platforming haha. Good job, nice entry!

Short and simple slasher, I enjoyed it! The combat was a little hard, and I had to retry a few times before getting 13/13 and unlocking unlimited mode. The game would've been slightly easier if the slash range was increased. Overall, great entry!

Ha, that's totally made using Thomas Brush's tutorial. Or inspired by his game art. Or maybe I am wrong. Haha :p

Anyway, the art is really nice and the music goes well with it. Sound effects would have made the game much better. Nice little entry! Good effort. :D

@bilalch213 Actually it was made using Thomus Brush's tutorials and inspired by his art as a mix. Meaning, I learnt from his tutorials, but I didn't copy his landscapes or use them as references. However I did steal the colour of the grass :\
BilalCh213
12. Oct 2019 · 13:34 UTC
@clickbait It is perfectly fine to refer and copy art of others. That's how we learn after all. Many artists use other images and pictures to make their own palette. It is not stealing :)

But literally copying other people's art "files" and using them as game asset is bad copying/stealing.

Cute graphics, pleasant bgm, and nice game play. My only problem was with the speed of the main characters, I found it quite slow and hard to control and dodge stuff, but it feats the calm and soothing environment you set up so it is not necessarily and bad thing, it was just uncomfortable to me personally. Good job overall.

You know what? I think it's a nice entry. Personally, I have the game fully worked as it should, although the gameplay is a little hardcore (but it's for me and I finished it anyway). That's good. Graphics are nice, though simple. I would suggest adding sounds, but the background track is cool. Don't stop working on the games!

Playing in a browser. I felt like I was supposed to be able to walk 3x faster than I could. I wonder if this is something like speed relating to framerate. I wasnt fast enough to walk past the thwomp without taking damage, so I died on the way back after getting jump. I also wasnt fast enough to jump over the little spiders, but there were enough health packs to get to the weapon. I died a couple times after killing ~10 spiders and they respawned so I gave up at that point. I think I was standing too close or something because I thought I was at a safe distance but I took damage.

The spiders are really cute :)

Hello friend,

I can't help but notice that you have a number of repeat comments on other games which have received a lot of upvotes. I have a hard time believing, personally, that these were given by random passers-by and not, for instance, a number of duplicate accounts in an effort to farm karma.

@anonymoose Actually about the repeat comments - Yes, i did spam it because after rating several games my game wasn't reaching close to the front page. So i wanted to check if the karma system is really required. Sorry about that :o
About the ratings, they are genuine - I obviously could not have rated that many games, so i asked a couple of my friends to do so using my account.
Again, Sorry for the disturbance
