Just Another Day by Chaoseiro

[raw]
made by Chaoseiro for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Just Another Day is a game about a guy and his day to day life while in quarantine. All the player has to do is comply with the character's seemingly tedious daily routine. However, sometimes life gets monotonous and repetitive, and feels like we are stuck in a loop... unless...

Can you break this cycle?

The game is really fun. Controls are sometimes a bit wonky and there is no way to end the game other than Alt+F4 though.

+Player character looks cool

+love the isometric view you chose

-Choosing to make less tasks, and polishing the feedback you get from the completed tasks could be an improvement!

Good work on finishing the game!

A quirky little point-and-click, depicting a big mood in these times.

Figuring out what goes where was a bit of a headscratcher, but a few times veered into the bad kind of headscratching rather than the delighted. There was some delightful interactions don't get me wrong (my favorite was the engine), but I think it would feel a lot better if you didn't just drop an item you were carrying when you click a wrong piece of the environment. Instead A lil error sound effect + maybe a visual wobble of the carried item would feel a lot better instead of continuously dropping and picking the item back up as you test the different nodes.

Also I tried to apply the hammer to the dishes multiple days but it kept not working until like the fourth. Also some of the items weren't clear to me initially, the tie in particular I didn't 'get' until the dog started a day at the desk.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. We definitely need to improve the item feedback and make those quality of life improvements.

I love how you break out of the cycle. Took me a bit to figure out a couple of the connections, but once you started narrowing them down it actually got easier. I also wanted to be able to use things on some of the other set pieces, like sawing the keyboard in half or something. But still quiet fun.

Sometimes it was kind of hard to recognize what's the object you just picked up but otherwise, it was a really nice game! Great graphics, great upbeat music...

Funny point'n click game! I liked the jokes on the ways to eliminate tasks, even if it made me to much time to notice the hints on the whiteboard  Music and graphics are good too.
Well done!

***YOU CAN PET THE DOG!!!!!!!***

*ahem*

With that out of the way, it's a funny little commentary on being stuck at home! I liked the artwork a lot, but I feel like the style of the 2D sprites stuck out a bit in contrast to the 3D models. The art isn't necessarily bad, far from it, I just feel like it's a mismatch.

Also, I had a hard time deciphering what the items were based on the resolution I played the game in. I would consider trying to scale them up a bit.

Overall, a fun little minigame :)

Looking at your known bugs, i have nothing more to add - ive encountered a few of them ^^" Also i was kinda weirded out by the credits suddenly pulling up when i was checking what things can be interacted with. That aside, i personally would have preferred the art to be either all-comic or all-animated, the mix of both styles feels kinda weird to me. Keeping it to one style probably would've prevented the protagonist becoming one with the pantry - luckily, i found a permanent solution to that problem at some point.

Altogether i like the game, especially for the humor and music (really great job on that one! :)). All thats left to say is:

Good job. I found it fun, maybe in the future you could implement the gameplay on the keyboard, or controls. Success.

Lots of fun! Really enjoyed the sound effects, and the house was just nice to explore and walk around in. You've noted some bugs on your itch.io page, and I definitely seemed to hit most of them, but still, I really enjoyed it!

I liked the 3d hosue design with the 2 d chracter, the checklist displayed was really useful and having it updated as tasks were done really helped. I wasn't able to figure out how to clean the pantry or take out the trash, but enjoyed this little game c: good job!

I really enjoyed this! Definitely a different kind of entry, and that stands out. Clever to complete tasks by removing them ;) It wasn't clear if I had "won" when I removed all my tasks, as there was no win screen. But all in all, this was a fun little point-and-click adventure! The sound design, and working the dog into it, was pretty cool.

It wouldn't load for me in Chrome latest. The console logs a message and an error:
`[UnityCache] indexedDB database could not be opened`
`justanotherday:1 Uncaught (in promise) DOMException: screen.orientation.lock() is not available on this device.`

I like that audio, very good. That graphics is awesome, I like it. Partly match the theme, maybe next time it will be better.. Average fun game, but maybe next time you will polish the gameplay and it will be better.

This was an excellent take on the theme overall, it did take me a while to figure out the alternate paths I could take while solving the daily tasks.
I'm giving you high marks for it since you did a great job, but mostly because you can pet the dog! <3

On behalf of the whole team, I'd like to thank everyone for the amazing feedback!

We've decided to keep working on this game/demo and address all issues you reported in a "V2" that we will also link here when available

@ditam I'm really sorry to hear the game wouldn't run on your end... I also use Chrome and it worked fine, but will search what the problem might be... Have you tried the desktop version in the meantime?

unfortunately this game isn't dumbass proof and i was too stupid to work it out on my own, but even then i still enjoyed playing it so the developers might be onto something! i've lost track of how many times i've wanted to pull out my teeth at 6:37am on a weekday instead of just brushing them before going to bed. i'm living vicariously through this game. and the trash can animation??? HM *chef's kiss* fucking amazing

[We played your game on stream last night!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/781046795?t=00h12m01s)

I dig the style of this game, the 2D characters with the 3D models blend surprisingly well! Unfortunately, I wasn't smart enough to figure out what the game wanted me to do past day 2 in the time we had allotted. :slight_frown: That's always a risk with puzzle games, for sure. But I'll maybe try to come back to this one to figure it out if I get the chance!

@coleslaughter oh man you were so close to find one the erratic stuff. I had a great time watching you play our game and, honestly, I had an even greater time playing Dude Ranch (which I reviewed 1 or 2 weeks ago I believe)!

Yeah, unfortunately the visual feedback overall wasn't good enough, and there was also a glitch with the tasks list (in day 2, at some point, you checked the tasks and they were all marked as done when they shouldn't). You and many other players got confused due to the lack of feedback and that's definitely something we will be looking into for the next jams.

So thank you very much for playing and reviewing our little game, and we wish you the best of luck with your amazing Dude Ranch!
