Worst Party Ever by AnarchoApathy

[raw]
made by AnarchoApathy for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Warning: Random number generating is apparently kind of wonky on the web player, but seems ok on the desktop version. Enjoy the clone party.

You're hosting a party, but it's not going too well. You have 5 minutes to keep the party alive.

WASD or Arrows to move. Talk to guests (Spacebar) to give them a little hype boost and get a random clue about their music taste.

Use your phone to post on Clucker and invite new guests or change music with the Bluetooth Speaker app.

Some guests are looking for love. They'll be disappointed if there aren't enough available people.

Liked the idea! Visuals were also a really cool idea, but a bit muddy. Would use a colour palette and brighter in future.

Good original songs in the phone.

Phone was a bit confusing to use bit I got used to it. And at first I thought I needed to press a button to talk to people. Maybe that is just me.

Great effort though and good job!

I actually thought the art style was great and original. The autonomy of the other NPCs was well done. Clever take on the theme, too. By the way, I had a similar approach to "keeping the party alive". Check out my game for something vaguely similar

Clever use of the theme! I think this is the first time I've seen a character creator within a LD entry.

Great entry!

Nice twist on the theme. I really enjoyed it. I love the phone-as-an-interface concept for changing the music and calling friends. The one thing I was confused about was the music hints: I couldn't really tell which songs counted as "club music" or "pop" based on the titles. The NPC behavior was pretty convincing though, great job on that! Nice little game!

Also, character customization! Yay!

Made a sweet mohawk dude and had my post-apocalyptic get-together. My final score clocked out at 175.464503, which I hope is good, because at one time there were so many party people in my appartment that they boxed me in and I could no longer move (they let me go after 20 seconds though, so it was a really minor thing (made me feel proud of my party though)).
So yeah, it's a good take on the theme, and I liked the phone hub idea, the management aspect of the music especially. I had fun talking to the people and choosing music based on that (for my party, Bubbles and Rainbows was the clear favorite). Also thought the stylized art style went well with the theme and the generated characters. Had a hype time throwing the party, great job overall!

Lol, very nice game, quite different from the usual. I really liked the different choices for customization, easily done and it gives quite a bit of charm. I liked the mechanics although I got flamed for spamming the party too much (was trying to be smart but I guess the game outsmarted me). Very cute entry, keep it up!

Final score of 106.542095. Best party I've ever thrown virtually or in real life. I feel like I just accidentally threw a good party though. Kind of just spammed Clucker and changed music until I saw good music symbols around the room. I really liked that you put a character customization tool into the game. Good work :)

Great take on the theme, and impressive job having 4 different pieces of music in a compo entry!

Once things got going it seemed like there wasn't too much to do - just enjoy the tunes and chat with people. I guess that's like a real party.

As others have said, the character creation was a very nice touch.
