Cats In Flats by Black Flag

[raw]
made by Black Flag for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

In this 3D top-down shooter, you fight off hoards of cats in order to save your pet Goldfish! The cats may start by looking cute and innocent but soon, they ramp up their attack to a military standard! Guns, Tanks and Choppers will be sent after you, and most importantly, your fish...

To win you must survive all 15 waves, including the final boss battle, and also have your fish survive along with you! You can create defences using what furniture is available, and purchase items, weapons and upgrades from the shop!

All assets were made during the 72 hours for Ludum Dare 46, some disclaimers are made in the credits menu! Thanks for Playing!

DISCLAIMER The physics in the build work for furniture placement, but not as intended and can sometimes have whacky results. This won't ruin a playthrough just looks a bit whacky

There is an in game tutorial as well as tips along the way however if you get stuck: WASD- Move LMB- Shoot -Press E while looking at furniture to pick it up and E again to throw -Press E while looking at the TV to access the shop and E to close it again -Right mouse button is use item! Also a big thank you to the modeler for this game: Martellus!

Yeah, who _would_ put a fish in a cat sanctuary?!

Also, the cats were too cute. I didn't want to shoot them!

funny but nothing else - the bullets didn't feel like they were doing anything and the art was bad. LOVED the humour tho

Ok, nice game but the water shoot gun sound was very annoying and hurt my ears, although the voice acting and the music was amazing! Also sometimes I couldn't tell whether I hit the cat or not , which caused me to shoot them multiple times. Good game, amazing music and some of the sounds require some tweaking.

What a fun concept! Right before the first wave I thought that killing the cats was over the top, but then I realized the gun shoots water haha. My only issue is that the player moves really slowly so getting to the TV and back between waves was a challenge.
Nice work!

Just a note: No cats are harmed during this game - they just get wet :cat: :cloud:

No cats were harmed making the game.

Watched the game on strean, impressive for a compo game but I feel after trying it out quickly that it's a bit tedious to buy and do stuff. I would recommand for next time to do less but more juicy, with more care for each feature. If you just wet cats around in a fun environement that's all you need really !

But it is a good and genuinly funny game. The voice over is amazing

Pretty funny game, but I am so bad at it ^^"

I think there are some ways to improve it because for now you fill quite quickly overwhelmed, but the graphics are good and I love the jokes in the game. It sure is not smart to have a goldfish in a cat sanctuary xD

@solah Thanks a lot for the feedback! Yesterday, I released a post jam version with decreased difficulty on the first few waves, if you are interested in playing! Don't feel like you have to re rate, after all its a post jam version, so just if you were interested! Thanks again for the feedback!

Cat sanctuary are cool <3
ahah the voice is cool, and a cat would never kill you. But cool stuff that you care about your goldfish. <3

Soo.. let's start...
Movements are really annoying since they gain momentum and you start to slide really fast from one direction to another,
The need of click for shooting is a bit weird, since you can just shoot just in front of you. I personally would have preferred to use the arrow keys to direct the shooting and WASD for moving - might be a personal preference though.

A sort of tower defense I see, not really my thing but the sound design were cute. You could have make more in level design and try to make the obstacles a bit more solid, since they were moving really fast out of the way.

The "shop" wasn't really intuitive either. but this is a cute entry.
Thank you for letting me play your game <3

We streamed your game with Danae: [link to Twitch VOD](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/599171054?t=03h51m31s) (approximate timestamp)

Fun game. Some UI and control awkwardness maybe (e.g. I keep moving after opening the shop). I really didn't like the fact that the cats could just spawn at the bottom of the room. Also that the furniture was so easily pushable by the cats! Maybe a clearer indication that I actually hit a cat would help, since they slowly turn around and then run away. And added to that, the fact that the cats still hurt while running away felt a bit punishing. I appreciated the voice overs!

(Sorry, realised I didn't rate during the stream, done now!)

I really like the idea and enjoyed playing. It is fun. However, it gave me an error on the browser and the game stopped (I clicked it away accidentally so could not take screenshot). The movement of the player was to fast in my opinion.

The different cat models were all hilarious!
I liked being able to shoot as fast as I could click.
There seems to be a resolution/aspect ratio mismatch between the game itself and the unity web player window. Probably a mismatch between the WebGL Player Settings and the itch.io settings.
I'm not sure giving the player health in addition to the goldfish health was necessary or interesting. It would be nice to know how much health each cat has so you know how many times you need to hit them.
Moving the furniture around was an interesting mechanic.

The voice acting sets up the mood perfectly. Graphics is unfinished, but charming in its own way. As @nikkrope said some visual indication of bullet hitting a cat is needed. Also you can activate shop only at certain point of the room, which woild make someone think that it doesn't work. But good work.

P.S. Every time I quit I get memory access out of bound error

It was hard to tell how much I had to spray the cats, a health bar or some other indicator would of helped. Also, some sort of effect when the cats get deterred would of been nice.

lol the intro about him loving his cats but loving his goldfish more made me chuckle. That voice over work was really nice and funny, totally felt like it fit the theme of the game.

I tried using furniture as blockades and the cats flipped over the furniture which was pretty funny to see. I also appreciated how you use water to get the cats away from the goldfish and cat treats.

I had a few issues, for some reason the first time I played I couldn't seem to access the shop, I dunno if I was not positioned correctly, but it worked afterwards. Also the movement felt a little slidy, but I think it might of been my macbook struggling to run the web version . But for the most part I could control things well.

I had fun playing and enjoyed the charm and humor of the game

this game is lovely and funny. I liked the humor in it.

but I think personally that you bit more than you can chew here.

I felt like the other gun is weaker because it doesn't actually good for protecting from waves since your bullets hits the cats any way. but it was a nice to have.

same feeling about the moving furniture mechanic. it is very interesting to have but in current state of play you cannot do much with it.

you had too many upgrades - item usage system - moving furniture system... etc but they didn't prove how fun they can be here.

I like the way you buy from TV (change the camera) very nice. needed better UI though.
also I got really close to TV and furniture and couldn't interact with them. I had to keep distance.

but this is a really great game for 3 day jam! good job.

fun idea. man, i was surprised that cats could hurt me too.
the shop would trip me up because the time wouldn't stop, causing me to stress over it.
sometimes, especially when i would carry a turtle, I would get stuck at furniture, causing my demise. that wasn't fun.

I liked the speech audio.

I can see this being a fun concept though.

Hey, thanks for posting the game to my stream!

There's a lot going on so I didn't have time to explore everything fully there, but it's pretty neat.
The cats are evil and must be stopped before they bring about the end of the universe! Except that's not the plot at all, but... close enough.

https://youtu.be/4XZ6ZDYqkSE

here is my playthrough of the game

Edit: Unfortunately the video did not pick up my microphone, so here are the main points I made.

1. This Game needs some feedback on hit detection as well as feedback on what the Items in the shop do

2. The shop is very akward to use and I once bought some cat cookies on accident while not even having the shop open

3. The Starter Gun is by far the best because you can spam click with it, I would limit the fire rate

4. I liked the Graphics and the Narrator Voice was excellent

Tutorial went by too fast, started game only half knowing how to play. Need some more feedback from shooting cats to let me know I'm doing damage, visual indicator to go to tv, a timer before next wave (and longer break too, next wave started just before reaching tv). Voiceover of character well done.
