Don't Forget To Water! by Thor Lucas

[raw]
made by Thor Lucas for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Sometimes watering your plants is hard.

Keep your beloved flora alive by finding creative ways to terraform the world around you — and giving them the liquid gold (water!) they deserve.

This game was made for Ludum Dare 46: Keep it alive! All assets, including music, sound effects, art, and code, was made by myself during the 48 hours of the event — with the exception of the Alegreya font.

View the source code on my GitHub, although I wouldn't recommend you try to learn anything from it because I was pressed for time and the code is ugly.

Note: there are some bugs. If you find a way to route your water off the edge of the map the game will crash. There is also a bug with water pressure not working correctly in certain situations. I'm sure there are also other bugs. Please report them if you find them.

LDJam won't let me edit my page — but the bug is squashed and the game should now work on macOS and Windows!

Dang this is really good! Very original. I like the different kinds of blocks you add as you progress through the game, which adds depth to a simple game. The music is nice, so are the graphics. I don't see anything wrong with this game! I am craving for more levels.

Cool game! You really did a lot with a little here! I haven't reviewed too many games yet but so far this one is my favorite, I was dissapointed when there were no more levels after the one with perlite, but I hope you'll take that as a complement haha. My only suggestion is to make the cracks a bit more visible, sometimes they were a little hard to see.

The HTML version took so long to load that I considered making a new game about keeping the loafing bar alive...
and then it crashed.

What a lovely little plant sim! Lots of depth here with some pretty simple mechanics. I could see this being made into a nice gardening game.

@trampolinetales @thatothernerd I'm sorry! Godot HTML5 support is very much lacking. Godot currently only supports these HTML5 games in some browsers AFAIK — so perhaps you were using a configuration that is not supported.

I really like this idea. The levels pace really well, the music is head bangin. Can't wait for more levels, maybe a mobile version.

One of the better plant watering game of this jam. I love the gradual hand holding of level design. Looking forward to more level after LD!

Finished it all - nice work. A cool concept for the theme, and an appealing interface. Cool game.

I wanted this to be a Terraria clone. Anyway, great game. I like the interesting mechanics.

Amazing game! I like that you've managed to put many levels and slowly introduce more puzzle mechanics as the player progresses. The art style is great. The music is maybe a bit short and repetitive, but it's catchy and fits the game nicely. One small UI addition I'd make - have the level number / name displayed somewhere on the screen. For now all I can say is I reached the one with two trees and cracked rocks between them and I'm stuck for the moment. But I will definitely play this again. ;)

Oh my god, unbelievable game, so much fun, smart idea, the graphics kinda reminded me of a flash game era but in a godd way, music ok but man, the gameplay is so good and fun.

Very nice! You had lots of concepts on this game for 48h, and you introduced them progressively. I enjoy the water physics, reminds me of terraria. Some levels even needed some timing! You have a lot of potential here, I hope you continue to explore this project.

As feedback, I'd work with the smoothness of the water level. Sometimes it wasn't clear up until which point water pressure would raise the level, or if the water would be able to cross a "plain" of rocks.

I really liked this. Would not have minded a few more challenging levels but that's pretty much only because I wanted to play more ^^
Great work! =D
