Pluses :
- The graphics !
- The tutorial makes a great job explaining the game
- The game slowly gets more difficult, but the frog mechanic prevents it from being too punishing
- The music and the...voice acting ?
Possible improvements :
- Not having immediate input feedback can be disorientating at first (fixed-rhythm movement). Maybe rotate the frog immediately after input to give feedback to the player while conserving the fixed tempo.
- The projection makes some obstacles hard to read.
Good job !
It was confusing at first because I kept trying to go upwards (left from the frogs perspective).
I'm also a bit unsure why I lost at the end?
Maybe I'll come back later.Anyway very, VERY good job !
I really like the music. It seems swamp suitable. The voice acting is a bit quiet in comparison, but funny. Very nice graphics. It's a shame the unique frogs didn't play more of a role in the game. I don't think this game hit the theme very well, but it's at least unique. Definitely one of the more complete feeling games I've played.
The only thing I'd keep in mind for future games is avoiding text being in a different place than the action, and especially with timing based games, avoiding text whenever possible. I wanted to read the story, but really couldn't without losing lives. At the beginning, I thought the text meant I was in an intro sequence, then promptly died haha. It also wasn't always easy to distinguish life-losing obstacles from game polishing details...I kept avoiding sticks and leaves, only to realize accidentally that they were actually fine.
Again though, excellent work! The whole thing came together really well, and I laughed out loud at "childwen, childwen!". Keep up the great work!
The frogs are really cute <3
I had a difficult time commanding the frogs, and I also noticed that I didn't retain overflow followers- 5/3 frogs became 3 frogs next level, which was a little disappointing.
Overall though, it was a very fun game, nice stylish graphics, and I appreciated the voice acting and the storytime format!
this is amazing, especially the graphics, **How**
keep up the good work mate!
We released Version 1.1 today (for the remaining duration of the jam it will stay download only to not influence the ratings) and implemented a lot of your suggestions!
@thecritterscove Sadly the unique frogs were a bit overambitious. I've strewn them into the levels as random talking frogs so they don't go to waste.
@catie-jo Just thinking of your comment makes me smile - because "childwen" is simply a product of my inability to properly pronounce the letter "R"
One thing though, the controls felt VERY unresponsive- but that's probably because of the jumps happening in fixed time intervals and with a fixed distance on the grid. I had to quickly and repeatedly tap a direction to get the frog procession to turn reliably. But other than that, it was a really cool experience! I loved it!
I enjoyed this a lot. The graphics, the storytelling, the humor. Even my girlfriend stopped what she was doing and watched me play
The graphics were really nice too, congrats!
I'd have kept playing if it wasn't for the life-system that sets you back to the first level if you lose too many times. I really don't understand why you chose to implement this as it seems like a pretty sure way to turn off players who are already engaged.
As long as I played, I really enjoyed my time though :)
As some others have mentioned it would have helped if the frog rotated depending on his direction. I also struggled a bit to read the text and play the game at the same time. But otherwise I liked it a lot!
I didn't like the narrative style, but I think that comes down to personal preference, since many people here seem to enjoy it.
I think this game is good, but could be improved.

Good stuff :8ball:
The art and writing was wonderful, but I think the game over mechanic where you have to start from the beginning isn't really needed in the current iteration of the game, where the level layout stays the same over repeated tries.
I agree with a lot of the comments here that it's difficult to keep up with the text while playing, but I do like the idea of it. Maybe you can even lean into it more to make it really part of the game mechanics in some way? Anyway, keep it up!
