I was wondering when the murder was going to start - glad it was the chicken. Unfortunately I got booted out of the level after shearing the candy sheep and that was too discouraging.

I like it! especially the writing and the aesthetic actually grew on me, the main character is particularly stylised

The art was awesome and the optional path to make him good made me repay a second time!

Lol that was great. It was confusing at first until I figured out what to do, although even then some sequences of events weren't very clear. Like why did I have to use a pot on the goat to kill it, and then walk all the way down to the sheep on the other side of the map to pick up its horns? Maybe that was a glitch?

In any case, it was pretty fun. Also that chicken walk-south animation is great

Does the message at the end after you complete the ritual mean there's an alternate ending?

So innovative and interesting. Art is so simple its awesome. Dialogues are fun. I enjoyed playing it. At some point, after getting candy in a sheep wool, you can teleport out of the level. But other than that, great job!

Thanks @subtlydramatic and @ale for your thoughtful comments!

Possible spoilers ahead: the antlers are actually not from the goat, and there may be an alternate ending ;)

While the split in storylines was an interesting and appreciable feature, I can't say I particularly enjoyed this as a videogame. None of the actions I had to take seemed particularly clever or difficult to solve - most of them involved the shears, so basically handing the shears to the player right away seemed like a missed opportunity.

I liked the player chicken drawing but none of the other graphics gelled with it. The blown-up RPG buildings and trees are understandable, but stuff like the solid green background for grass seemed like low-hanging fruit that really could've added to the aesthetic.

Programming-wise there are also a number of opportunities for improvement - including smooth + diagonal movement, and revealing the dialogue when Q is pressed early instead of just jumping to the next message.

I enjoyed the writing and the characters, as well as the background music but I wished it would've looped more frequently.

Thank you for playing our game, and for taking the time to give detailed and honest feedback. These are all reasonable improvements for the future, when we have more experience and can make more out of our time. Calibrating the difficulty was definitely a challenge, since familiarity with the genre varies between players.

This game answers one of life's great questions, which came first the chicken or the demon spawn? It's the chicken. Great work!

Collision was weird, but overall pretty great. I thought it was gonna be normal at first, until I saw the pentagram... lol. Very dark twist on a bright art style. It was interesting. Pretty good.

@daltonleavey Thank you! This was, in fact, the philosophical purpose of the whole game ;)
@0x01f0 A meme of our game!!! What an honor :open_mouth: Glad the ending was effective!
@TheFoppian Thanks a lot for playing! The collisions did give us a lot of trouble... we used a fairly bare-bones library, but might opt for an engine next time around
@belowzerogames Thank you! So glad you enjoyed :)

The game is really weird in a way that I do like a lot, but can't say I actually enjoyed it that much. The hand-drawn art was pretty nice, but the blurry pixel art levels really don't look that good and don't match the rest. The gaps in the background music loop and the lack of sound effects hurt the experience as well. The writing was good, though.

Don't get me wrong, I still think that you've done an admirable job here. Making any kind of video game is very difficult, especially when you only have 72 hours to do it.

Cool little game. A bit of consistency in the art would have been nice but love how the chicken looks :chicken:
