Feed The Fire by Tomssuli
Survive the night and feed your fire to avoid freezing to death.
Build up the heat with small items and gradually move onto bigger items. Remember to keep the fire healthy or you might encounter some nasty surprises.
CONTROLS:
- Move: WASD
- L Click: Pick up items, Use tools
- R Click: Throw items
- Scroll: Scroll through the inventory
- Numbers 1-8: Pick a specific inventory slot
Tips: - Flame size tells you how long it will burn. Flame meter shows the same thing. - Flame brightness tells you how hot it burns: Semi-transparent flame is warm, bright white flame is very hot. - Some items require very HOT fire to burn. Size doesn't matter. - Some items give more heat than others. - Small fire can still be hot. Very big fire can still be only warm. - You can find better tools. - You must click right on the enemies with a tool to hit them. Otherwise you'll be hitting air.

The complete lack of light at first was really disorienting and made it hard to even get started. That is most likely on me and my lack of experience with this type of game though.
Clever! Good work!
It was hard to get the difficulty good for everyone. Some of our team thought it was too easy and at the same time others thought it was impossible, so we had to take a middle ground somewhere...
Maybe we'll do advanced edition with easy and hard mode.
Or has anyone else for that matter gotten to the end credits?
Keep up the fire! :octopus: :fire:
Somedays ago I played a very similar, but less polished game here on LD46. This one is complete, with enemies in the dark, not only the cold. I defeated the mosquitoes but died attacked by a bear!
It took me sometime to discover how to use the other legs, once discovered it got really fun to play!
Congrats, great concept and nice artwork!
The controls worked in general, but I didn't like that I had to manually scroll through the inventory to pick up items in free spaces. That's something that can improve the user experience heavily. The art was good in a silly way (of course ;)) and the soundtrack fit that theme very nicely. Good job on that.
All in all, the game was all over the place, but I think, with a little tweaking, can be made into a rather fun experience. Keep it up!
Thanks for the lots of positive feedback on the art! All of our artists (graphics, music, sfx) were participating very first time in a game jam (and game developement in general) and made everything from scratch, so all the positive feedback has been really personal and encouraging for them.

Thanks for appreciating the complexity in game mechanics ...usually people mostly praise the work of artists (music, audio and graphical) so as a coder it's nice to hear that someone also noticed the details in game design and mechanics

Thanks for the detailed feedback and suggestions. We got lots of critique of not giving player enough feedback about the interactions between the player and the other active elements (fireplace, trees, enemies etc.). Also, we had in mind to make the inventory handling easier, but I didn't want to spend more time screwing around it because it took lots of time to build from scratch and debug in the first place. We'll most likely make an enhanced edition of this game. I -at least- like it too much to leave it unpolished and would like to fix all the things you mentioned.
Advanced edition now available!

...in which you can choose easy difficulty for little bit more relaxed pace in gameplay.
